I have a HP Compaq Presario C700 laptop and im having a problem with it.
My battery has died and my charger broke, i bought a brand new charger (Genuine part from Play.com) and now my laptop wont charge.
There is supposed to be a blue light that comes in when it is on charge and that no longer comes on, the on/off button doesnt seem to work either for some reason either, i know this because when you press that paticular button on that laptop a blue light is supposed to flash to say it needs charged.
I have a lot of REALLY important stuff on my laptop and i have to access it ASAP for a job meeting i have next month. Can somebody help me out? I'd really really appreciate it a lot!!

Sounds like your battery is dead (I mean, really dead).
Did your charger "break" while your notebook was charging?

Do you have access to another computer ? If yes you could take off the HD of your laptop and put it on that computer. It should work.

No, it just stopped charging one day, i'll try buying a new battery.

The HDD in my laptop doeant fit my mums one.

Does it power on with the AC attached and the battery removed?

Not tried that, i'll try soon and tell you what happens.

All you need to do is attach the power and data cables from the computer to the hard drive and then copy your important data.

Helps if the laptop turns on which it wont do

Oh sorry. I meant remove and attach the laptop hard drive to a desktop PC and grab the data that way. You can just reuse the desktop PC's connectors from the DVD drive to do this.

Laptop wont turn on no matter what i do. I've tried everything i can, i'm not going to buy any more parts for it, i'll take it into a computer shop and see if they can tell me exactly whats wrong with it. Personally i think its a problem with the Motherboard itself, not the DC in cable or the battery.
Cheers anyway guys 👍

It's actually quite common for the power connector to break off of the system board. First symptom is "battery won't charge" but it's really no charging current reaches the battery. Next symptom is "laptop won't turn on." That sounds vaguely familiar.....

Completely dead battery and no power coming in makes the power button "not work" just as you described.

The laptop will have to be opened up to see if it's repairable. Maybe the connector can be repaired, but probably not. In that case, new motherboard. If it's not worth that, then toss it and get a new one.

As for the data, the disk can be run as a USB external; drive with any number of adapter kits out there, whether it's IDE or SATA. Set up the adapter, connect the USB, and there's all your stuff, safe and sound.

I will add that using a laptop while it's connected to its AC adapter for power should be done while it's well supported, like on a table or desk, and not being tossed around on a sofa or bed. Any weight on the connector while it's plugged in in very much like what we would call excessive strain on the connector. If you need it to be portable, run it on battery. If you need it to be plugged in, put it on a desk or table.

The AC IN Cable hasnt come lose or that, i've opened it up myself (i know what im doing dont worry) and i cant see whats wrong with it, everything it in and hasnt slipped or whatever.

I think its just a complete dead battery or the AC IN Cable has for some reason just gave up the ghost. OR its my motherboard (lets hope its not that)

Can you give me a link where to get one for a UK buyer, someone did post a link previously but thats buying from the US
Cheers

I had an issue like this with my laptop about 6 months ago. I took it into a computer shop and had to get a whole new motherboard. Although just to be on the safe side, I would try and get a back up of the HDD just in case.

A friend had a similar issue recently. Replaced charger and then had issues, the charger was a fake Chinese built replacement. I replaced charger and the DC power board, all working fine.

I've checked the service manual (http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01301275/c01301275.pdf) of your laptop and you don't actually have a DC power board like some laptops, except the power cable is literally a jack that sits in your laptop chassis and connects to the motherboard via a cable. In theory, this method is more reliable than a power jack on a small power board, but leverage will still hurt it.

Like so:

Do you still have your old charger that "broke"? Do you have any details of it, like part number?

Link me to the genuine replacement charger.

Since that's a 5 year old laptop and an inexpensive one, repairing it probably isn't the way to go. Hook your hdd to another pc and get your data.

just use a hdd dock its always handy to have sitting around when someones laptop doesn't boot and you need to recover some files.
they don't cost much either.
