I mentioned yesterday of the 16 PS3s that one astrophysicist has linked up to simulate black hole collisions, and it seems the potential of the powerful PS3 hasn't escaped the attentions of the US Air Force.
It seems that the Americans either fancy some real hardcore gaming action, or they want to use the incredible power of the PS3 in other ways, as they are actively trying to snap up a huge 300 of the damn things.
According to the FBO site, the purchase has been classified as "general purpose information technology equipment," which doesn't give too much away in terms of what they plan to do with 300 hefty machines.
If 16 consoles is all it takes to simulate a black hole collision, then what on earth could 300 all linked together do? Should we expect a cure to the world's ills sooner rather than later thanks to the PS3? Or do they fancy a REALLY huge game of Call of Duty 4?
