Xbox??? Who is this Xbox??
Hey guys,

My USB 2.0 seems to be working at a snail-like 6MB/s on a Kingston 4GB drive. And then on some devices (like my MP3 player) it does a mere 1mb/s. Device manager says there are no driver problems, however I have a feeling that there is. Any suggestions?

EDIT: The speeds are same when its in my USB 3.0.

Try updating drivers? If not.. Then maybe the devices you're using at USB1.1? I have no clue really. There shouldn't be any reason that they're operating so slow.

I have the chipset driver updated from the ASUS website (My Mobo manufacturer) and everything is fine. It is probably what the drive can do at maximum.. but shouldn't it be faster?

Sounds like the device is just slow.

Usually older/cheaper MP3 players or memory sticks have very slow transfer rates. You get what you pay for most of the time on anything with flash memory.

You won't be able to see any visible difference. However I'm thinking that it has to do with the USB specification. They're both probably USB 1.1. You should be able to look at the specifications of it via device manager.

It depends more on the flash drive itself as to what speeds you can get. I have a 1GB and 16GB both of which are satisfactory while I have an 8GB device that's excruciatingly slow. My son has a 4GB device from the same manufacturer as my 8GB that works fine.

Try the device(s) on another machine, I wouldn't be surprised if they're just as slow elsewhere.

This ^. It depends on the speed of the actual flash memory in the USB stick. You can benchmark the read and write speeds using something like CrystalDiskMark. When you buy USBs, shops online usually tell you the speed. Might be worth upgrading to one that is USB3.0 that has flash memory that takes advantage over a USB2.0 one.

I just tried it with another Kingston Datatraveler, this time being 2GB. It does it faster at a speed of 7MB a second, compared to the previous Kingston Datatraveler 4GB, which did it at 6MB/sec. The read times are insane, at 19MB/S.

I just downloaded the Crystaldiskmark, and it is only for HDD's. However, I found out that my HDD is running at a cool 28 degrees! My previous PC had its HDDs running at 58 degrees! Epic cooling for the win!

It works with USB drives, just select the drive in the list. My OCZ Rally 2 32GB has 30MBPS read and 16MBPS write which is more or less at the limit for a USB 2.0 drive as far as read speeds go.
