well I'm having problems with an old laptop running win 98 se. I only use it when I'm too lazy to not watch tv and use word on it. but my new comp doesn't have a floppy drive on it so i figured to use my old comp's floppy + my usb flash drive to transport flash drive drivers to the laptop but when i plug my flash drive into the usb ports nothing happens. when i search for driver information or whatever and it doesn't recognise it then either. I'm really confused on this and i appreciate any help you can offer. BTW the laptop is an old p2 gateway 333MHz and it is a lexar "jump drive".

Windows 98 does not support hot swappable devices such as flash drives. You will need to download a device driver from Lexar for your flash drive.

Or, if absolutely no USB device is being recognised on your laptop the USB drives might not be enabled in your bios, or the driver for the USB might not be working. . Check your divice manager and make sure the USB ports are recognized by windows, and that there isn't a red "x" or a yellow "!".

It sounds like the flash drive is USB2.0 only and the laptop is USB1.1.

👍 That's just how i solved the problem when this happened to me a year ago.

no, i did carry the drivers on a floppy disk. but it didn't recognise the thing in the ports at all or when i searched for the drivers manually.

hey donbenni thanks for the drivers. the ones from lexar's site didn't even work, but those did. I also realized that it wouldn't accept the flash drive because it couldn't fit. after i wedged it in there for like a second it was recognized and it accepted the driver you gave me. thanks again.
