Use of Actuators - GT?

Hey all,

ok - n00b here... so hi all ! *waves*

Been looking at the GT5 news here for quite a while (thanks for all the great stuff!)

I have been searching for a while for some information on if GT5 (ok, so I know it's not officially announced etc) will accept the use of actuators to replicate the feel of a proper car.

I know PCs use the x-sim software, however as far as I can see there isn't anyone who has managed to mod this for PS3 - however GT4 (and the versions of GT5 which have been released) have all had acceleration sensors and G force sensors built in.

There is also the force feedback which is sent to the wheel etc... has anyone managed to work out how to get this into an actuator, and if so how was this done - and what actuators did you use?

thanks all for your help!

hey ringo,.

sadly the answer is simple : NO

i been looking for that for a while now, posted and read through different forums. and until now nobody has managed to build something proper that works well.
Don't get me wrong, it is do-able, look at the tt from gdc! (they even got one years ago with gt4 on the nür ring)
But Sony doesn't give out the output data necessary for integrating it into a device.
Problem with x-sim is that it needs drivers installed and that now is impossible on the ps3.

Our only hope is to wait till gt gets out and hope a company brings out the modul for the motion sim. A rumor i heard 2-3 times now is that dbox is "talking" with Sony to see if it could be compatible with the ps3.
my hope is there.

But if you actually got an idea, com'on.

NB/PS: FF doesn't work because it gives not the signal we need for complete motion sims.

Sad, he?

In this documentary, the dev versions of GT can run a motion simulator at least

Actuators (if that is the correct term) and 3 screens have been used by Polyphony in the Subaru simulators for some time, I vaguely remember seeing it before I had GT3, but can't find any proof on the net, most of the videos seem to be from around 2005.

If you google "Subaru Simulator" you can find lots of video, this one shows the mechanics underneath quite a lot:

ShingeT, the guy who runs Frex (of Frex wheel and Simconmotion) did brought up a while ago that he's trying to get both the wheel and Simconmotion (which is Frex version of motion simulator) to work with PS3 and GT5. The last time he was asked his answer was- "No news we can reveal now".

hey all, thanks for the responses... hopefully there will be something that is put out - the Frex kit looks quite cool actually - maybe i'll be able to mod the existing frame.

It looks slightly odd with the seat moving and the pedals / wheel not - i wonder if this is a limitation on the lift weight of the actuator... surely there would be a reason that most people seem to have fitted it this way...

*makes note to bookmark this thread.... please keep me posted!!

here is hoping that it's one of the things that they have been working on in the background - and damn -

GT4 Motion simulators at the Toyota Mega Web. Maybe there are special versions of GT you can get directly from PD if you ask? :)
Looks like the same one Kaz was using in the above video

"So meet us back in a year or two when GT5 comes out"

I gotta' admit though, playing in a setup with three screens and actuators would be pretty cool.

*DROOL* - I SO WANT THAT !!!

Simconmotion + GT5 + 3D-TV FTW !!!

now we only need:

1) GT5
2) 3D-TV
3) Actuator integration....

mmm.... I can sense a bit of a problem with this plan in it's current state...

All we need is GT5.

3DTv are out now.
Actuator integration is there, just not for the public.

I bet if you ask seriously Sony, you get one. For around 20000 - 30000 Dollars. Is it worth it? If you are billionaire sure, otherwise you need to be sillyonaire.
All is doable with enough dough.

Still i hope they release a mass product... (which would still cost like 5000 for just the motion converter + actuators

We'll see when Gt hits the streets
