With the holiday season approaching, and GT4 on the way, I've been considering asking for a PS2 for christmas, but I'm wondering if getting a used PS2 over a brand new one is worth it? What is the price difference, how good are used PS2s typically, etc. And if you list a price, please state which currency (Canadian dollars if possible).

I have found PS2s being more "fragile" then GCN and XBOX, so I suggest you get a new one. Plus you get a network adapter, and a free game with it (199.99 USD).

I agree. If you go used, the chances of getting a junker increase drastically. If you don't want the network adapter, you can get a new one without the adapter for $179.99. There have been rumors about a price drop before Christmas, too.

EDIT: The Canadian price would be 238.25 CAD for the basic PS2 and with the Adapter it would cost 264.73 CAD. Hope that helps.

Yea, if you aren't going to play online at all, then get the one w/o the adapter, but if you are going to play online, then you will save boat load of money getting the bundle.

I'm probably not going to play online, at least not in the near future (GT3 and Ace Combat 4 have no mp, and they're about the only games I'm interested in for now), so I'm probably going to go for the stock PS2, and get a game and a mem card with a cancelled Half Life 2 pre order I have at EB.

Thx for the advice

He's talking about GT3. And getting a PS2 off of eBay isn't a very good idea. Since it's pretty fragile, the system has a higher chance of being damaged (if it's improperly packaged). Sure you can return it to the seller, but it takes extra time and money. Plus right now there isn't much of a price difference between a used PS2, and an eBay used PS2.

I see where you're coming from, but if you get a PS2 from one of those eBay stores, you should be in pretty good shape. I'd discourage buying from individuals, though.
