User tagging?

Just an idea I had earlier, does anyone think this would be useful?

On facebook you can tag someone in a post (by typing @ followed by the name) and they recieve notification of this. Would a similar system be useful for GTPlanet? Currently it's possible to link to a user's profile if you're mentioning them in a thread post, but there's no indication to the user of this.

Since there's already a notifying system in place, I wondered if it would be a useful addition.

That's a neat idea and it would be very useful, but it's unfortunately not a feature provided in the current forum software and it isn't something that I can spend time on to implement myself.
