User VS Different user w/ same PS3 offline 2P Battle

Hello, this has been puzzling me for a while now.

Is there a way to battle against my brother (who has his own user account and garage in the same PS3 unit as mine) in the 2-player versus battle in arcade mode? Meaning we can pick cars from our own garages when we race.

Nope. Whichever user you are logged into - you can only use cars from that garage. :)
 
What if you use the LAN mode? Yes, GT5 truly does have a hidden LAN mode.

Right, I missed that one. The LAN mode doesn't work? Interesting, I never tested it (I only have 1 PS3 so...).
 
Even if LAN mode worked - which it doesn't (unless you attended the GT5 Asia Championship) - the question was specifically about one machine. And the answer remains "no".

If it's just a couple cars he wants to use he could always send them to you or put them on share. The share method you would have to pop into GT mode each time he wants to switch cars so you can borrow and favorite it.

I know it's a lame method either way but it's something at least. 👍
