I am looking into getting broadband installed in my house and buying a PS2 network adaptor, simply so that I can play Gran Turismo 4 on-line.

Can anyone here tell me what actually happens once you've got the adaptor installed in the PS2, and if you need to subscribe to an ISP or something in order to play PS2 games (like GT4) on-line... and if so, how much is it likely to cost per month???

Thanks for any replies,

TM

Heres the deal if your looking into getting Broadband i would suggest going for Telewest or NTL for your connection..

Most of the uk is covered by BT broadband.. This option is not highly recomended..
The problem is that the modem that BT supplies wont work out of the box with the PS2 network adapter, as this is USB and the network adapter is Ethernet..
But having said that BT broadband users can still connect to the PS2 network but it means having to purchase an ADSL moden/router with at least 1 Ethernet port free..
These start at around £60 and connection to the broadband service is around £20/30 a month but not 100% on that one..
What you can do is contact Sony's technical support line (UK only) 01923 653598 they will be able to advise you better on what option to go for ...

I myself am using BT broadband for my connection and im lucky to have purchased a 8 port ADSL modem/router , as i was having compatibility problems with BT's own modem and my macintosh G4..
So hopefully i can use the PS2 network adapter no problem..

I dont know if sony plans to charge users for this service, but i reckon it's very possible that they will at some point in the future..

Installation of the network hardware is relatively simple..just a case of plugging in the network adapter ,hooking it up to your modem, inserting the network access disc into your PS2 ,here you will open up and online gaming account, user name that kind of stuff and your ready to go...

Hope this has informed you some ,and good luck on your quest ;)

You can pick up a cheap 4-port Ethernet modem on eBay for £25-£35. There's a company in Sheffield (can't remember the name - I'll drag it out when I remember) that do a service only - no modems, or splitters or any ancilliary crap - for £16.99 a month (which compares to BT Openworld's dial-up at £15.99). They consistently get the best ratings for upload & download speeds and customer support.

I'll check it out, 'cos I just got a nice new computer specifically for this :D

I just found another site: http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ - which seems to have it pretty much covered. I thnk PlusNet was the company I was thinking of, and I intend to contact them myself tomorrow :D

Thanks for kicking my butt into gear :D

Thank you very much for that Pedrodaman and Famine, very helpful indeed... :D

Never know, will probably end up racing you on-line come December 26th!!
