Just something to pass on to the developers...

You know the option to "Show image attachments and code in Posts?[/b] Selecting no will show a hyperlink instead.[/i]"?

While this works well for say, browsing the Show Your Desktops thread to keep my dial-up line from bogging, there's the side effect of not being able to see certain smilies or smaller pics that I wouldn't mind having loaded.

So, I think a good solution would be to allow the user to set an image size limit. For example, to show all images that are less than 30KB, but to show hyperlinks for images above 30KB.

I like that idea. But the question is can it be done and if so how much extra programming would it take?

This problem will be solved in vB3, with attachments shown as thumbnails in posts. :)

Will this work for image tags too? Also, if it does, then how would it handle really small images (such as smilies?).

Thanks! :)

I post on a board thats running beta 7 of vB3. Image tags arent shown as thumbnails, only attachments are. I dunno if its an option that can be turned on or off. I wouldnt know, I'm only a moderator there. :)

No, it doesn't affect image tags, because they're hosted on a remote server. It wouldn't be possible to generate thumbnails for them without quite a bit of programming that would be a bit more trouble than it's worth.

Well, see, the main thing that I care about is the image tags, because of their wide usage - From huge 500KB files in the Desktops thread to <1KB smilies. That's why I'd like some kind of threshold for when to display images enclosed in img tags, so that I can always see smilies without having an ugly hyperlink in their place, but having those hyperlinks save me in the Desktops thread (or in some threads in the Cars In General forum). Having thumbnailed attachments is nice and all, but I'd really like something to be done about image tags. ;)

Yeah, I see what you mean. I'm doubtful if it can be done, but I'll see what the vB developers have to say about it.
