In another thread I asked Jordan if he could open a subforum for vendors.

Such a subforum was part of RSC and had some succes. Jordan already had contact with sim racing companies but he rejected their request as he thought that we (members) would complain about their presence.

My question to all of you: would you like to have a place on GTP were you can talk (write :dopey:) directly with vendors of sim racing hardware?

I was thinking about, Frex, CST (= cannonsimulationtechnologies), Leo Bodnar, Ball racing development, D-box, ECCI (= Extreme competions Controls Inc), Fanatec and ..... .

I'm with you on this one - Good call!..

I voted Yeah as long as vendors agree not to try flaming other vendors saying their product is better, but the members should have the right to voice our opinions on products as long as we don't go flaming wild.

As I was never a member of RSC I have no idea how exactly a vendor forum works.

Could you explain what the point of it would be?

I would welcome a Vendor's sub-forum. I would also like to back what Joey mentioned that if too many members complain about a Vendor then said Vendor would be banned from the site.

I don't particularly care to see a vendor forum for that sort of thing, but it doesn't bother me if its there. We have them on 8thCivic.com for all sorts of car parts, and they're very useful for getting specific information, and they also do a great job of notifying everyone when something goes on sale or if something new is coming in. There are the occasional group buys, too.

So for the benefit of those who do care about that stuff, I say go ahead. Just be pretty strict with the vendor members. Anything they post outside of the vendor forum needs to be on topic and not pure advertisement.

On the other hand, I do question how useful it would be to have the companies in the OP represented here. I've only heard of Frex and Fanatec of those. There's a lot more usefulness of having 10-15 aftermarket vendors (with hundreds of products) on a forum specific to one car than there is having 5-10 vendors (who each only have a handful of product I'm sure) on a forum for a video game.

We need to hear from people who would actually use it, rather than people who simply aren't bothered by it or wouldn't go there even if it was there. Seems a lot of people don't mind if it's there or not, but would they actually use it?

For me, it would depend on vendor and what they have to offer. GT/game related stuff would certainly have my interest. And it's a good way to get directly in contact with said vendors.

Sadly, I think this forum might suffer from inactiveness. However, if this isn't the case then I recon it'd be a very interesting place.

This is why I voted no, I don't think there would be enough support for one. As I said in the other thread, it seems most people buy a wheel(logitech or Fanatec) than just make their own cockpit/stand. Other than those two products, I can't really think of any other companies that would sign on.

I have a feeling if only one of those companies signed on(Fanatec is the only one I could see doing it) some members may be pressured into buying that particular brands wheel.

I would definitely use it.

On RSC, I was in direct contact with Leo Bodnar and with the software developers from D-Box. You could ask questions regarding their hardware.
D-Box sells their stuff as a complete cockpit. I'm not interested in a complete cockpit, only in the actuators and the motion control box. So I asked them if it is possible to buy these items seperately. It wasn't possible at the moment but it could be possible in the future. I'm almost sure that I wouldn't get an answer if I emailed D-box.
There was also a guy on RSC whom was interested in the D-box and he asked if he could test the D-box before buying one. He said that didn't live very far from the D-box office. He got his answer immediately.

For those who don't know what D-box is, here's the link: D-box

A vendor's forum is not only for talking to the vendors personally but also for interaction between the members of GTP. If someone has a problem with a certain steering wheel of a certain brand, you can ask for help in that forum.
I know there is already a Steering Wheels & Racing Cockpits forum but if there was a vendor's forum, you could pose your questions/problems in the right forum. It be more organized.

I've been in contact with an Australian guy via emails for the las couple off months, whom is teaching me how to make a working dashboard for different race games using a programme called gimp and the x-sim² software. I got my first working dashboard, tested it a couple of minutes ago.
Well he told me if there was more hardware related stuff on GTP, he would definitely join GTP. He was a RSC member. He told me today that if I could find some information about "the FrexGP Hshift+" on GTP, he'll join up.
He knows a lot about games and DIY hardware. I'm sure that if GTP should have the same subforum as RSC had, a lot of these smart guy come over to GTP, because they have 'no home' anymore. :(

So, if there was a Frex vendor's subforum, people could actually post in that forum and share information with each other, ask question to mister Sigh (or something like that) from Frex, directly, etc ... .
Gabkicks and oqvist know what his username is.

It will work, I'm sure of it. Look at the https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112348 thread in the Steering Wheels & Racing Cockpits. 1480 posts! No need for any comment.

I say, that we don't need a sub forum unless a good amount has appeared. It seems to be working in this site.
SrK's Tech talk
Though there are small companies like Gamingnow.net, Lizardlick.com, and Modchipman.com
But also, they have a member's trading post.

It could be very helpful. Imagine being able to communicate with logitech about the various wheels they have out. Maybe even asking them if its possible to buy replacement pots for the pedals and such. As mentioned above, vendor forums are common place on car forums, seems like they would be a good fit for this site too.
It may enable other things like the do-it-yourself guy who provides a cheap cockpit (or some other useful thing) for those who don't want to make one themselves. That type of thing could be handy I think.

We need to look at the limitations too -- Taking z06fun's comment as an example, the do-it-yourself guys who would ask let's say Logitech how to mod a wheel... Manufacturers don't necessarily want you modifying their products seeing as how doing so voids your warranty and legal mumbo jumbo like that. There could also be rants and complaints "You need to make better hardware", "You need better customer service" and there's a chance some (if not most) of the manufacturer's won't either want/have to time to participate or will go inactive after a period of time. It sounds awesome in theory, but it may not be as good in practice.

Racesimcentral is back online, so no need for a vendor's subforum anymore.
