in the land of stupidity
This is what I always wanted, a video camera inside a car and film while I'm driving.

I haven't tried it yet, with this setup (I'm going to after posting this thread).

It's my intension to mount that little camera inside the front of my car, but I still don't know who I'm going to do that. I need to get the wires insice the "cockpit", without making holls :sly:)

Once bot cameras are in place, I want to make a video with a PiP.

My I could go to the 'ring and tape my lap?!

Well, I think I'm off to test everything.

Bye :dopey:

:)

Sounds interesting enough. Although I'm sure most of us wouldn't want to sit through a whole trip to the grocery store.:indiff:

I do see potential for a "How's my driving" type thing. On road or track.

I thought of something similar, except I was going to use the head rest holes in the passenger seat for the camera mount, haven't finished the design yet. Let us know how it works out! :)

FYI id find that quite interesting actually

Well, it depends a little on how he drives, and how he gets there.

Being in Belgium, I'm sure it would be at least somewhat interesting, but as he drives faster, it would get better and better. I'm more worried about people posting trips that go on forever that do all the same thing. Interesting moments in a drive (like a cloverleaf or something) would be cool.

I know. No problem, they won't even now that I'm filming.
You know the place where GT4 starts at the 'ring? Where you can see the new GP Nürnburg track, I'm planning on stopping there to mount the camera.

Professional photographers line the circuit, even on a normal day, and post their photos for car owners to buy on their well-known websites. You'll be lucky if you don't get caught!

Ow, :O but they won't see that little camera in front of the car, hehe.

What do you mean:

Watching the first try, I can honestly say that the sens of speed in GT5p demo (dashboard view) is not far off.

If the Nürnburgring isn't possible, then I'm going to film my monthly car control lesson. But I have to wait till next year because my reaction time is compromised due to the meds I still have to take.
Maybe I could film during a track day on the Spa track or maybe in Zolder (but then I have to get a racing license).

There is a Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V here in Grand Rapids that has a similar mount inside of his car. Generally speaking, I like that Nissan, but having that camera in there seems like a good way for a cop to have a wonderful reason to write you a ticket should he ever be stopped.

...Then again, maybe he is a weekend racer on a legal enclosed circuit...

I know when I was out at Grattan with CAMAROBOY a lot of the cars had cameras mounted similarly. Although, the Lotuses and S2000s mainly had to find creative ways of hooking them up in other places...

You could always bring someone with you to mount the camera, so you don't have to stop. Just an idea.

Might be a bit too compicated on the move though.

Edit: In fact, scrap that, it would be unsafe to anyway...

You could always set a webcam on your dashboard with a laptop connected to it, sitting on your front seat. My dashboard has a recessed part where the clock is mounted so it's perfect for setting a webcam in, without it tipping over or moving back when I accelerate. Another thing I've seen people do is rig them to the headrests by tying them to it.

I just did something very immature and unsafe! I wanted to see what the sens of speed is when driving fast. I haven't been able to watch the result because my father is watching the news. It is dark outside and I forgot to put the camera on "automatic", you know "exposure" and stuff, so I won't expect too much of it.

That is true, but I'm sure that with a clever mounting, a cop would never find out you had one. Similar to what you could do with a radar detector.

Remember, it's not illegal as long as you aren't caught....

Are webcams that great for capturing a video? I would think that if you wanted to get a half way decent movie of your driving, you would need a better and more dedicated camera than what somebody would use for chatting.

Illegal? Why is it illegal to film from your car? (On the road, I mean, not the 'ring)

Kikie: Have you considered concealing the camera in something? It wouldn't be possible to do it in its current location, but if you put it on the dash you'd probably be able to cover it with something. Btw, what's the mini-cam recording onto?

Not illegal, but I would think the cops would think you were using it for something, and it would give evidence to any reckless driving.

It's just something that you have to be careful of.

If you can get the lighting correct, it's actually not bad. I've also used my digital camera that doubles as a video camera (just a basic digital camera) and that turned out fine as well.

Did this a few years back with my motorcycles as well. Mounted a video camera on the gas tank.

Just watched the first video and even at 230kph, the sense of speed doesn't look that impressive on camera.

Btw, what's the mini-cam recording onto?
VCR or DVD recoder.

No, I mean what's the little black camera recording onto while you drive?
Like I said: VCR or DVD.

Let me clarify. I use this to power a VCR in the car.
