What people declare as "fine" is subjective. Some people are cool with low settings and 60fps, others need all high without the frames dropping under 80. I couldn't imagine running a 9200 for today's games.
 
When I say "fine" I truly mean "fine".

The frame rate is...well, not top obviously but it flows well enough, no jerk, whatever. The graphics are fine. Smooth. Round. No aliasing.

I might point out that we're talking about Halo here. Is that a good example, or should I be thinking more along the lines of running a 9200 on HL2 or something?
 
Halo might be a bit old, I would stick to newer games, since there will be higher end games coming out in the future with a higher performance demand.
 
My PC has a 9200SE and it runs Battlefield 1942 with the intensive Desert Combat mod on high settings with little problems. The 9200 isn't a bad card for the price. The 9600XT is a bad card for the price when you can get a 9800Pro the same cash.

I believe Halo was released in Sept 03, making it over a year and yeah therefore a bit old now in the computer world.

You can get a 9600Xt for $130.

You can get a 9800 Pro for $190.

There is a difference in price.

I happen to have a 9600XT, and I can say that the $150 I payed for it when I got it has proven over and over that it was worth it.
 
Seeing as how the 9600XT is just about maxed out in terms of core/memory clock speeds, I would definatley consider the 9800Pro as well, if your budget will allow it. With some <$30 mods, you can get the 9800Pro performing like the 9800XT.
 
I'm sure you'll appreciate Burnout, that prices vary all over the place, from online shops to high street shops. You can buy a 9800Pro for the same price as a 9600XT if you hunt around.

I agree with Pako with the overclocking. Can't wait to get the Arctic cooler for my Pro. 450+Mhz here we come.

I understand this, but you're going to more than likely find a place that overcharges considerably for the 9600XT at the place that you can get the 9800 Pro for.

Seeing as it costs ATi more to create the 9800 Pro, and places aren't going to sell them at loss, that'd be obvious.

Like I was saying, though. If you were buying from a place with correct prices, the 9600XT is enough to be in a different catagory. 130 to 190, mainstream to gaming.

But, I have agreed with you guys to go with the 9800 Pro.
 
Yep, but then again, what else can i provide(?). I can't provide you with other people's opinions, i can only give my own personal opinion.

Incase you haven't bought a video card yet, these are most deffinitely worth looking at.

Much better performance than the 9800Pro, and support for never technologies (ie., PS3.0)

Just came out in the AGP8x so brodly. I recommend one of those over the 9800 Pro anyday, as I think most others would as well.
