video compressing

right i having a hell of a time trying to get my video online i have just edited the video and rendered it using avi and divx codec but the problem is the qaulity isnt that good and the video is a huge 150 mb. So im wondering what would i have to do to make the file size smaller and quality better so ppl can download it.
Any help would be most apreciated and sorry if this had been brought up before but i searched and could not find anything doing a search.
