Hey Guys,
I videotape street racing for some local guys and I want to post them on an internet website as well as here on GTP. One of the guys told me to use a USB 2.0 or a firewire??? Any help/info would be grateful.
Where can I find a USB 2.0 or firewire, and is it just a wire, and how much about.
Thanks.

It depends on your camera ...

You'll also need a program to record the video onto the hard drive.

What make/model is the camera ? Is it Hi-8, MiniDV, or DVD ?

I think the majority of video cameras connect using a Firewire (1394) port. If you don't have a firewire port on the back of your computer, you can buy a Firewire PCI card. What does a firewire port look like?

The weird one on the right is a Firewire port and the other two are USB.

Right now I am using a Sony Handycam Vision HI8. It does not have a firewire port. The only port that looks like it would be for a pc is an S-Video Out port. The camcorder is CCD-TRV318.
Thanks.

Ahh. Slight problem there i'm afraid. Your camera doesn't have a firewire out, or a usb port, so you're stuck that way. The only other way, is to buy a tv card type thing, or a usb version. Belkin currently make one that plugs into a usb pot on your pc, and has a video rca input (that yellow phono style one) and an svideo input. I saw one in pcworld the other day for about £60, but there are cheaper models around.
Hope this helps. I did have the same problem with my sony one, untill we got a new one recently, which has a usb port fortunatly.

My Panasonic PV-GS15 MiniDV is USB 2.0 only ...

Yep, so is my sony. Which is a real pain, as i have to video something for school and make it into a movie in about 1 weeks time, which has been announced JUST as my laptop with usb2 was being collected for the second time today. My desktop doesn't have usb 2 :ouch:
