Grand Theft Auto IV (commonly abbreviated as GTA4 or GTA IV) is a sandbox-style action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North. It is the sixth 3D game in the Grand Theft Auto series.

The game is set in a redesigned rendition of Liberty City, a fictional city based heavily on modern day New York City. It follows Niko Bellic, a war veteran from an unspecified country in Eastern Europe. He comes to the United States in search of the American Dream, but quickly becomes entangled in a seedy underworld of gangs, crime, and corruption. Like other games in the series, GTA IV is composed of elements from driving games and third-person shooters, and features "open-world" gameplay that gives players more control over their playing experience. GTA IV is the first console game in the series to feature an online multiplayer mode, which contains fifteen game types.

Grand Theft Auto IV was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Oceania, Europe and North America on 29 April 2008, and in Japan on 30 October 2008. A Windows version of the game was released in North America on 2 December 2008 and in Europe on 3 December. Two episodic packs are being developed for the Xbox 360, the first of which is entitled The Lost and Damned and was released on 17 February 2009. The next expansion pack will be called The Ballad of Gay Tony, featuring a character that made several appearances throughout the game by the name of Luis Fernando Lopez.

A major commercial and critical success, Grand Theft Auto IV broke industry records with sales of around 3.7 million units on its first day of release and grossing more than $500 million in revenue in the first week, from an estimated 6 million units sold worldwide. As of 11 March 2009, the game has sold over 13 million copies. Grand Theft Auto IV also received overwhelmingly positive reviews, becoming one of the highest-rated games of all-time on aggregated review websites such as Metacritic and GameRankings.

Good, it's a favourite of mine, but it's actually not that amazing when you really play it for a while in comparison to previous titles.

Thats why I nominated it, because I feel it's a good game, a great one for me personally, but I know it was way over-rated in reviews and such.

I've always found it to be a huge let down after the great titles in the GTA series, they built and expanded, improving each time, but this felt like a step backwards as the content was lacking and I personally have never liked the driving physics even if they are meant to be more realistic than previous titles.
Obviously the graphics were an improvement but that's a given with it being on the next generation console, but I've never found myself just wasting away endless hours travelling all over the map when I get a fun and pointless idea to implement, it lacks variation in scenery and vehicle choice and the vehicle sounds are weak and gutless making driving an irritation.
The storyline has also never gained my attention, I've never felt the need to continue playing with the end result being that in the year I've had it I still haven't bothered to complete the storyline as it just bores me, but that might tie in with the fact the entire map is a dreary grey mass of misery, instead of the variation San Andreas gave us.
I'm hoping for a big improvement over this release in the next title, bringing back many features previously seen and hopefully bring back the real fun of GTA that had me hooked.

The biggest change backwards, was getting rid of car modifying shops, can't fly planes, can't go underwater, can't skydive (with a parachute). And some more. BIG depression!:guilty:
