I'm sure this has been discussed plenty in threads, but I searched for a racing etiquette video and couldn't find one! :grumpy:

As GT5 online racing becomes more and more popular and more people start racing against other people rather than AI, it seems that folks need to be reminded about racing etiquette when it comes to passing, defending and getting through T1.

Anyone have comments on the following?

Passing: NEVER hit the guy in front! In general, don’t dive-bomb a guy under braking from way back and you should never hit a leading car trying to pass. Better to spin or go off track than to hit the guy in front. Do you agree or disagree? Or maybe Rubbin' is Racin' is a better mentality?

Defending: One move down a straight. Basically, pick a side and stay there, no weaving. Once a guy is up next to you, give them space and don’t turn in on them. Do you agree or disagree? Is it okay to move more than once? If they are not close enough to pass, is it okay to weave back and forth to break their draft?

Surviving T1: Be patient. Few races have been won in T1, but many have been lost. Nothing ruins a racing experience more than a T1 hero taking people out.

What are your personal rules for passing and defending? Does GTP have rules for this? Anything in these videos stand out from your experiences in GT5?

Online Driving School: Racing Etiquette and Passing

Online Driving School: Surviving T1

Show me some good online racing etiquette videos from GT5 and I will post them instead. The topic is racing etiquette, passing and T1 behavior.

Haven't seen any GT5 videos like that, but I just don't think iRacing videos belong instead of GT5 videos in a "GT5 Online" forum. I'm actually alright with these as a tutorial, but I just thought GT5 would obviously be more fitting.

Cool, and that was the point of posting this. There are no etiquette videos anywhere on these forums and I continually see threads with people complaining about being punted or blocking or whatever. That is the most frustrating thing about online racing if you are not racing with GTP guys or at least guys that are used to online and non-AI racing.

GT5 has the potential for HUGE online racing and I hope it gets there. GT5P got very frustrating as the numbers of people racing online dwindled. If we can get more people racing clean, GT5 will be AWESOME!

Sooooo, thoughts about passing, blocking, T1 per my opinions in the first post?

I don't mind the videos as they do illustrate the points you're making nicely. iRacing isn't my thing my I did enjoy the videos.

I thoroughly enjoyed these videos. I went to youtube and watched the whole 16 part series. Very informative about racing regardless of it not featuring GT5.

I think these should be posted in a sticky here in this forum and EVERY GTPlanet member who plays GT5 online should watch them to know how to behave online.

Lime Rock Park - I love that track - it's the track in the pic in my avatar!

Wish GT5 had it :(

I played GT2. Now I have GT5. So, I'm new to online racing. These rules seem so obvious to me, that I do get a little frustrated in pick-up races, when people don't tend to follow them.

I have found, that a good offline place to practice these rules is in, of all places, arcade mode. Load up your favorite car and a nice curvy track, and go a single-player race at the highest difficulty with a healthy number of laps (perhaps even turning on tire wear so you can get used to how you'll lose traction as the laps wear on and passing may get harder (or easier). You will start at the back of the line, in a rolling start with a full field. You'll have to pass all of them to win.

I figure, if you touch any of them as you pass them, then you'll likely have a worse time online since online drivers aren't always aware of cars at 4-5 o'clock and 7-8 o'clock.

This won't help with T1, though, since it is a rolling start in a single-file.
