Video Problem

My PC is driving me crazy man, I couldn't watch videos untill like a week ago when I downloaded divx stuff, but now, I can only watch real short STREAMLINE videos, and that only works if I:
-click on the vid to open streamline
-press control alt delete
-press cancel
-and it starts buffering

But I just downloaded a drift video from Mike Le Chat Noir here at GTPlanet (see GT4 drift section) and together with another drift vid I have and a NFS Most Wanted trailer I cant watch them!!!

It doesn't error me, the only thing thats wrong is that only the sound plays, but screen stays black, and when I hit control alt delete it says my CPU uses 100% of it's power while I have no other thing running on it.

Edit: Oh yeah, the only videos I can play SMOOTHLY is google video's streamline. If I download them though it's crap again. But the google streamline is awsome, not cntrl alt delete stuff or something. It's very fast too.

And sometimes when playing the vid, and press cntrl alt del, then I hear the video playing again but I cant see it cause all screens are gone, then I hit cancel and it stops, showing the image it last was. Just like pauzing the vid.

Ok thanks I'll do that:D

BTW Is there a point of uninstalling those? Does it help to let the new programm work?

Well.. By uninstalling the old codecs, you're just making sure they don't interfere with the new ones.. So you can get away with not uninstalling, I just don't recommend it...

Ok.

Thing is I've asked many people now, some adviced VLC or something, some divx, and some other programms that seem to work fine for them, BUT NOT ME:crazy:

I hate PC's I really do, I got them for a bit of gaming but otherwise I'm sticking to my Mac G5!!!!

Edit: Should I uninstall WMP and Quicktime too?

Edit2: Ok so I installed it now but it doesn't show up anywhere, is this a media player I download or just some........codecs?

it R t3h c0d3cs :) And once you start playing something, it will appear as silly icons in your job tray...

Either upgrade to WMP 10 or download ZoomPlayer - Excellent little player, and free in the standard version...

[Edit:] Or just stick with WMP9 as the changes to 10 mostly deal with DRMs and equally unimportant stuff....

So if WMP still doesn't work after th.........no wait I'll shut up first.
Did it work or didn't it ? :)

  • Uninstall ALL codecs. Xvid, DivX, FFDshow, etc. etc. et. NOT WMP.
  • Reboot
  • Install FFDshow
  • Reboot
  • Play

/* Snickers and points at Mac People ;) */

I dunno how many friggin codecs I've installed lol. I'm gonna try to uninstall them.

I hope I dont uninstall something important...and no it doesn't work.

Ok so I uninstalled quicktime, and now I restarted and it says new hardware found......WTF? Raider something???
omg man.........this never happened to mac, uninstalling something and suddenly new hardware pops up outta nowhere...

Anyone? What does a video depend on? Or what does WMP or other players depend on? What could be wrong, please help me:(
A video solely depends on the right codec. Doesn't matter if you use WMP9, WMP10, Zoomplay, VLC or whatever. As long as the right codec is installed, the video should play..

And QT is a f*ing b!tch to deal with.. Why should I install iTunes to watch a video encoded with QT ?.. I do not, and do not PLAN to buy an iPoo.. EVER.. Which is why I stick to QT Alternative...

Lol:lol:

Well I guess.......guys I dunno how the other ones in GTPlanet drift forums saw Mike's FBI drift video with their codecs.

Is there something about codecs? That you need to place em somewhere in order to be usefull I mean...I installed them but I dont think it's gonna run the video all of a sudden then without placing the codecs in a special map. Remember I'm mac user lol.

Satsuki Codec Package is simply the best ever created in my opinion. If you need any codec, down the hole package, it comes with a modified version of Media Player CLASSIC, and it just works so well...

I've seen Mikes videos (he's the only one in the drift forum I pay attention to :) ) and the only codecs I've got installed is FFDshow and AC3filter. AC3filter deals exclusively with 5.1 encoded audio, so I don't think that would be your problem. Besides, it was made obsolete by one of the latest revisions of FFDshow, so I don't even use it on my HTPC anymore (which is where I watch most movies)...

I this is really causing you grief then how about doing a simple system restore back to before this issue showed itself. It's less painful in the long term.

Just an option.

Sorry mate, but Codec packs are invented by the devil...

Well I bought this new PC (see sig) and it always had this problem, I could watch all of my videos on my mac I had previously though, but now I use stupid windows lol.

And Flerbizky, so you dont have to place them anywhere after you downloaded the codecs?

BTW I tried to add you to MSN so you dont have to come back all the time and stuff. Tried to add you but I dont think you have accepted me. niels3333@hotmail.com

Edit: Oh nvm here you are:dopey:

I've never understood why people like codec packs.

The majority of videos on the net (legal or not ;)), are usually encoded in either DivX/XviD or MPEG*. MPEG playback is native to Windows (no codecs needed), and you can play any DivX/XviD video by installing one simple little thing - ffdshow. ffdshow is all that I have installed on my system and I have no problems playing back videos.

* excluding propriety formats like Real and Quicktime, which codec packs don't supply decoders for anyway ...

But do you install it and then like, place it in some map? I mean....guys I'm really frustrated I need to know if I gotta place this ffdshow somewhere special, in some kind of map, in the C drive or E or F or whatever.

PLEASE:nervous:

:odd:

It's an installer. Double-click and it'll install the files needed.

Ok so I installed them already, and then when I click a video, windows media player opens again, should I run it with some programm IN ffdshow, cause I dont think windows media player suddenly uses the codecs of ffdshow or does it:irked:

ffdshow isn't a video player. Its a decoder. A set of instructions on how to playback DivX/XviD files.

You should be able to just playback the video in WMP.

.....should.....

I hate PC's man, I honestly do, what the hell can go wrong with a video man....even my dads pentium 1 can do some video's with alot of effort though but it still does it...

hello, first time downloaded Mariposa HD . I opened the video in WMP and it plays very choppy... why is that? it`s a 1.1Gb file 720p. Can my computer not handle that? Sempron 2600 1.8GHz 512ram Radeon 9200

thanx

A year-old thread for an unrelated question?

HD videos are VERY cpu intensive. Your PC can't handle it. It's not a codec issue, it's a performance issue.

I said the same thing about an iPod.

Until a kid offered to sell me his 2 GB Nano for $10...
