Hi all, I originally started planning this series within the Vintage Car Race Club (check my sig for a link), but I would like to open it to anyone and everyone as I move forward.

The basic idea is still open to reinterpretation if anyone has any strong suggestions, but here is what I propose:

Cars may be from production years 1960-1985, must be production vehicles with engines of displacement smaller than 2000cc (check your car's stats if you aren't sure). The original idea was to have two classes, but this may change (check the VCRC thread for more info on this). As for tuning, the maximum will be 400 PP (and possibly 350 PP for smaller displacement engines), with dirt tires, snow tires, and Comfort Soft depending on the track. Also, the event will likely be limited to front engined RWD cars, as the FF and 4WD cars have a traction advantage, and MR cars are unlikely to be production in this time period. If you have a strong objection to this last bit, I will hear appeals :)

As for penalties and that sort of thing, I will figure out what makes the most sense once we get some practice races in. Damage will likely be set to light or full, however and don't expect to get away with any corner cutting.

My plan is to hold the event over three days (maybe multiple sections, drawing on the success of Watermelonpunch's Spitfire event). The races will be on these tracks, but some may be reversed to increase the diversity of the racing.

Day 1: Dirt Rally

Eiger K Trail
Eiger G Trail
Eiger W Trail
Eiger Short Track (weather change)

Day 2: Snow Rally
Chamonix Main (weather change)
Chamonix East (weather change)
Chamonix West (weather Change)
Chamonix Mini (weather Change)

Day 3: Tarmac Rally

Nurburgring Nordschleife (weather & time change)
Circuit De La Sarthe (weather & time change)
London*
Rome*
Madrid*
Cote D'Azur*

*2 tracks to be chosen from these 4.

I haven't figured out how long each race will be, but my plan is for the total event to last around 80 minutes for each 'day.' This will be broken up between the 4 tracks. For example, I will aim for a 20 minute race around each of the Eiger tracks, for a total of somewhere around 80 minutes.
I want to run this as a sort of cross between racing the clock and the other cars. My plan is this:
Your total time will be tallied at the end of each race, and summed at the end of the day. So if you take 22 min, 23 min, 18 min, and 20 min in the day's races, your time for the day would be the sum of each race that day, or 83 minutes. Lets say the others tallied 85, 87, 80, and 79 minutes. You would have gotten 3rd for the day, and would be allotted points accordingly. at the end of the 'season' whoever has the most points wins. You will likely also receive a bonus in points for winning a race. I will figure out the point allotments later.

How does this sound to everyone?

Practices will be scheduled shortly, and all are welcome to join as many or few as they wish.

Edit: Forgot to mention this, but one of my main motivations for this was that I have always thought rallying was really cool, but I am terrible at it, so maybe if I start with low powered older cars, I will later be able to manage higher powered newer ones. Hopefully others can get into it for the same reason!

i'd be up for this. rubbish at rallying but hey ho. As ever depends on date time etc.

So far it seems like all of us who are interested in this aren't confident in our rallying skills, so hopefully we will be evenly matched.

I haven't set the official time yet, so I could take your schedule into account when laying things out officially.

Rubbish at rallying is me as well.

Practice is Open in My Lounge!

Any movement happening here? Was driving the trails at eiger today. Lots of fun. Found traction to be an issue, (actually the lack of traction) hard time getting up the hills in road cars. The rally cars, Nissan Bluebird, Mitsubishi Pajero, were a blast.

Gosh this sound fun! There is one car that fits the criteria and is a a RR(one of the few in this game) and that is the Alpine A310. I would like to run this car if it okay. If not I'll race somthing else.

I've never tried the Alpine on a dirt track. I love the Alpine though.

Very nice car indeed! Well I was running some test laps and I managed a fastest lap of 1:14.9xx on the W Trail. Is this fast for a 400 PP car or should I try another?

I'm bumping this thread, because I'm desperate to find some variety racing.
LOL It's all high power tuner races, sports cars, race cars, and GTs out there in the forum right now. GTs, GTs, & more GTs. I realize that a lot of racers quite enjoy a straight diet of GT racing, but that's not me!

So here's hoping Jujubean appears from whatever's been keeping him busy (in real life apparently ;)) & we can get some of these old cars on the track together & see how they measure up.

I'm really unable to say what a good time in any car is on Eiger W trail, because honestly, my lap times are never difficult for most people to match or beat in general. LOL And I think I mostly stink on dirt tracks... because I haven't had much experience on them at all. So really looking forward to racing on some, and figuring out some more dirt-specific tuning set-up aspects. (Which I'm hoping people will share tips with me!! LOL)

One thing I have noted, in much of my recent going through all the vintage low hp cars...

All of these cars are VERY VERY SIMILAR:

Isuzu 117COUPÉ '68
Isuzu Bellett 1600 GT-R '69
Mitsubishi GALANT GTO MR '70
Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR '74
Toyota CELICA 1600GT (TA22) '70

They're all FR, all below 360pp in stock condition, all the same ballpark torque, hp, weight, power/weight, and as you can see they're all in the same historic range.

Though I don't know the displacements on them. I know the Bluebird is 1600 - and it's not quite as good as the above cars.

But for example, you may notice that these cars are the ones in the bspec remote race at nurb - and they tend to hang together the whole race.

That said, I have no clue how their handling compares to each other. Other than that I like the handling of the Celica better than the Bellett - but that's on regular paved tracks.
And I have no clue what they would be like if tuned to 400pp, as I haven't actually done that to them all yet.

I know that the Alpines would likely do better than this group of cars... Only because I know their stock value torque & power/weight is better to begin with... Maybe the displacement is higher? (I haven't looked.)

And I'm not sure, but I think a RR car might do better on a dirt track than an FR car. This is just a guess, based on my experience with the antique RR cars that seem to just do better on hills in general. Not that I understand why. But that there's definitely an issue with hills on the Eiger dirt tracks, doing better on hills would definitely be a good thing.

Well, what does anyone else think?

I've done some testing and deemed both Alpines, the STRATOS, power limited RS200s and the Peugeot 205 Turbo just way to fast for the other cars we are running. The reason is these are just homologation street cars for rally purposes. Also I would like to get some vintage rally rooms up so I can test other cars online and maybe dish out some rally tuning tips. That's all for now.
