:scared: It might not be the best place to go just after you've passed your test.

yea but it would be one hell of a place to celebrate passing your test lol :)
I just want to see if people would do it for the fun of it cause i no nordschleife off by hart so i would love to go there for real and see what its really like. I'm sure aload of other people would go aswell its not just nordschleife its other places like monza and all that

If I was in your position, after JUST passing your test, I wouldn't do it, no way, unless you have a death wish. It isn't something to take lightly, it's not a game, you can't just hit the reset button...
You know it off by heart, eh? From a computer/console game? If so, then no, no you certainly don't.
I'm not trying to discourage your, or insult you, but if you've never been in a car with an experienced veteran of the 'Ring, then you certainly do not know the track "off by heart." It's not the same as a game, you MAY know the LAYOUT, but you don't know the track itself, it's not as easy as that in real life.
Have I ever been to the 'Ring? No, but if I was going, I'd make sure I was well prepared first. I certainly wouldn't be doing right after passing my drivers test. No matter how good of a driver you think you are, you're not. If you're just starting to drive on the road, you still have A LOT to learn that a driving course tries to teach you. And the last place on Earth that you would want to go as a first time track day would be the 'Ring...

Don't. Even. Consider. It.

You don't know the Nordschleife by heart. You have no idea. You might know which way the next corner turns, but you won't have a clue when it comes to the bumps and elevation changes. In this month's Evo, Nick Heidfeld - a man with several years Formula One experience and the Goodwood hillclimb record - said "On the Playstation you don't realise how much up and down it is." And he lived an hour away and learnt to ride a bike on it. You've never driven a car by yourself, let alone been there, even as a passenger. There are easier ways to commit suicide, and they're far less likely to take people with you.

Oh, and finding car insurance to let you drive on the road is hard enough. There isn't an insurance company in existence - not an exaggeration - that'll let you drive on a track day anywhere, nevermind the Nurburgring.

So, in summary: don't bother wasting your time, and don't be an idiot. You aren't going, end of story.

i might not even go to nordschleife first but i'm just thinking about it but i will do track days and stuff and i wont go straight after i've passed my driving test i will probaly go like after three years driving and i have driven a renault espace by myself at asda carpark :) I'm thinking about just touring europe for a bit of time going to motor shows and all that. Nordschleife is at the back of mind at the moment but im still thinking of doing stuff like going to tracks.

Doing a lot of track days is going to cost quite a bit of money. What car are you thinking of getting to do it? What source of income do you have or do you plan to have? You'll have to buy things like tyres and brakes regularly, plus as someone already said, insurance is going to cost a lot.

Even your 1st time on the 'Ring needs to be taken in the M5 Taxis to get a feel. Then, if you want to experience speed, take the 'Ring Viper.

Lot of power, and shows you how hard it is to really drive the course with a 300Hp+ car just watching the driver.

I took the 'Ring on with a Cooper S, and pal...that was some hard stuff. It can get tiring as the 'Ring's bumpiness can jerk your arms a bit.
Its a tough course.

Amp88 i plan on doin it in a old renualt clio and hopefully after about 2-3 years i would have saved up a bit of money to do track day and upgrade the car. The first thing i plan on doing to the car is brakes and suspension maybe a little performance but thats it. Finding insurance will take a bit of time so i dont plan on getting insurance straight away to go to track days and but i would lke to go round europe.

its 1992 1.2 renault clio. Cool car

i had a 96 1.2i 8v clio - good car for a daily driver! doesnt corner worth a damn! there is abvsolutely no weight in the back end of the car hence no grip at all, it goes everywhere, im sorry but i wouldnt advise it around the ring whatsoever.

Edit* I have to say, im not trying to put a downer on your ambition at all whatsoever - if someone said to me lets go to the 'ring' in your clio (when i had mine) i would probably have said, you beauty and would have went but, i dont mean it aint a good car, advice from me, get a set of wide tires for the rear end!! otherwise your gonna feel like your on an ice rink! 👍

yea im gonna put some bigger rims and tires on it and see what its like :) but still i cant wait to start driving :D Also are they good starter cars for first time drivers ???

A friend of mine has one (not sure which year, but it's a first-gen model); he's had it since 2003, and he uses it most days. It's broken down a few times - once on a dual carrigeway, when he lost all acceleration and braking at 60mph (he got back to the hard shoulder through the gears and handbrake). He seems pretty happy with it though.

Sorry I was a bit harsh earlier, but I wanted to get across the seriousness of what you were planning.

I'd take a good look at insurance before you try planning anything. I have 3rd party fire and theft in the UK, and it drops to 3rd party only in the EU, and doesn't cover track days; otherwise I would have gone on one or two by now, although I'm not sure at what the minimum age for one is. Incidentally, the Nordschleife isn't offically a track - it's a "derestricted, one-way toll road." Have a look here (and indeed around the rest of the site) for more information.
