This is a proposal for a short racing series based on the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring, or in English the VLN Nürburgring Endurance Championship, or simply known by most as just the VLN.
I am basing this series on a race I have been doing for several weeks now, a 40-minute 5-lap race of the Nürburgring 24h circuit with a rather loose limitation on cars.
The series will be 5 races, all on the various layouts of the Nürburgring, and all of various lengths with emphasis on endurance, although a sprint race will likely be thrown in. This means Nürburgring GP/F, Nürburgring GP/D, Nürburgring Nordschleife, Nürburgring Type V, and Nürburgring 24h. These races will also be run with day/night transitions and possible rain when available, and game settings will be realistic. The shortest race will probably be half an hour, with the longest race up to an hour and a half.
As for the cars, as I said before the rules for my previous runs have been rather loose. Basically the series will be open to any GT or touring racing car, or modified street car. To really simplify it, anything is allowed except LMP/Group C cars, F1 cars, and the X1. For simplicity's sake, the Toyota GT-One, Nissan R390 GT1, and Mercedes-Benz CLK-LM will all be considered similar enough to LMPs and thus ineligable.
Now before some worry that simply building the most powerful and grippiest race car will sweep the series, remember that this is endurance. A hot lap car will get you nowhere, therefore drivers will need to be able to have a balance between what is fast and what is gentle on the tires. Further, all driver aides will be disallowed for this series, making tire management a key factor in determining a winner. As examples, popular cars in these races have been the Viper GTS-R, Corvette ZR1 RM, Mercedes CLK-DTM, and Zonda R. Up to a full 16 drivers will be accepted. Although not necessarily required, variety in car choices among drivers will be welcomed.
At the moment the series will likely be run with a race once a week, with Tuesday being the most likely day, however this is not a definitive as work scheduling may change in the next two to three weeks. Races will be held in the late afternoon/night US Eastern Time.
As part of the interest check and in order to help some people determine what cars they will be utilizing, I plan on running my 5-lap Nurburgring Enduro this coming Tuesday, so anyone who is interested is invited to join the public room. You may add me on the PSN with the same name I use here on GTP.
