The Volkswagen Concept BlueSport is a mid-engined roadster concept car produced by Volkswagen. It was introduced at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Concept BlueSport follows on from a previous roadster concept car, the Volkswagen Concept R, shown at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Concept BlueSport is powered by a mid-mounted 180 hp 2.0-liter Clean Diesel (TDI) with common rail injection engine. Volkswagen says that it can make the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 6.6 seconds and tops out at 230 km/h. The engine is mated to a a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox mounted closer to the front of the car, which gives it a 45:55 front-to-rear weight distribution.

The concept has some fun stuff like bi-xenon LED headlights outside and a touch screen command center inside. This all comes in a package that weights only 1200 kg.

I think you mean "put their concepts into production stage", the pictures in the OP does show that VW built this concept car.
