Abstract: To cerebrate the 35th anniversary of Golf GTI, Volkswagen made special Golf's to compete in Nürburgring. Three entered 24 Hours of Nürburgring as SP8T class, but all of them retired and lost to Schulze Motorsport GT-R, which was the SP8T class winner.

In 2011, Volkswagen cerebrated 35 years of Golf GTI. As a celebration, they made a completely new racing car called Golf GT24. After testing in Italy and Spain, they entered in VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring (VLN Endurance Racing Championship Nürburgring) with talented drivers such as Edoardo Mortara. This Golf was much faster than other SP8T cars, so many people considered that it was most likely to win the class.
Volkswagen Motorsport entered in 24 Hours of Nürburgring with 3 Golf GT24 (#35, #135, and #235) and 2 Scirocco. These Golf dominated SP8T class in qualify. Their rivals were Schulze Motorsport GT-R and Götz Motorsport RS 4. However, the race turned out to be a disaster for them. First #135's gearbox blew up 6 hours later from start and it quit. After 30 minutes later #35 were involved in crash in the pit road and retired. The remaining Golf also suffered with some troubles, but sometimes it took 1st in class while GT-R was suffering with broken anti-roll bars. However, when its gearbox began overheating, the team decided to retire it to find out why the gearbox overheated like #135. As a result, no Golf24 finished the race and GT-R became the class winner.
It was a shame that these Golf could not complete the race, but I think we need this as a competitor of Schulze GT-R.

Recently saw this on TG USA, when Tanner drove it around the Nurburgring in 7:30 to beat a Huracan and 911 Carrera 4S. Looks amazing
