The Volvo 240 sparked the beginning of Volvo's efforts in Group A touring car racing, with the 242 first being used in touring car racing in 1983. In order for the 242 to be eligible in Group A racing Volvo were required to produce a limited edition Group A Homologation model.

The car they came up with was the 1983 242 Group A Homologated Turbo. It is powered by the Volvo B21ET engine, producing 340HP @ 6600 RPM and 310 FT-LBS of torque, powering the car to speeds of over 150 MPH. 500 cars were built (some sources say 497) and shipped to North America, while 23 cars were shipped back to Sweden to be converted to Group A racers, and each North American Volvo dealer recieved 1 Group A Turbo for display.

  • Essentially a more powerful version of the 242 Turbo Evolution which I suggested a while back. Would definitely love some boxy old Turbo Volvo's on GT.

Sorry, Jason_Rocks1998, I don't want to be rude, but the this is wrong. In a mail Volvo confirmed that the site you has as source has more wrongs than rights in the facts. :(

The Evolution is the only Homologation of the 242 Turbo Group A from 1983 and was built in 500 units, but it didn't have musch more horsepower than the ordinary 242/244 Turbo.... The things that was different from the ordinary 242/244 Turbo was a bigger turbo, a intercooler and some other minor parts and changes. Look here
