Facts:
The Volvo 360 was introduced in 1982 as the top of the range model for Volvos 300 series, which was originally developed by DAF. The 360 was the sporty model in the line-up, with a 116bhp B19E engine, a close ratio 5-speed manual gearbox and lowered suspension, which made optimal use of the 300 series excellent chassis layout.
The 360 GLT was capable of accelerating from 0-60 in 10.5s and a top speed of 185kph.
Where the car really shines however is in the corners, where the very good balance of the front-engine-transaxle layout allows much higher cornering speeds than contemporary front-wheel-drive hatchbacks and even saloon cars like the Mercedes 190E.
The 360 has become a popular budget drift and rally car amongst drivers due to its great balance, rear-wheel-drive layout and low cost.
It even spawned it's own one-make racing series on the Zandvoort Circuit called the "Volvo 360 Cup" in recent years.
Volvo accidentally happened to make not just one of the safest, but also one of the best handling Hatchbacks of its era.
