Just wondering is it just me or does anybody else have a soft spot for Volvo, now don't get me wrong I know they can be considered a bit lite weight and have got a reputation for being safe, but surely nobody can look at these and not want to race the heck out of them.

Oh I took my Volvo S60 Sport around the Nürburgring on GT4 in eight minutes twenty seconds not bad I reckon, or is it just me and Volvo's are rubbish?

I think this is one of the sexiest cars on the market today:

Ladies and gentlemen, Peter Horbury.

I will never own another Volvo, but I haven't disliked one since the S90. And of course it will always hold a special place, being my first car:

I've a soft spot for the old 850s and the current S60 T5s. I remember toodling around for a while in an S80 T6, wondering why the heck people didn't like them... it was a more than decent motor, great locomotive shove when you stuck your foot to the floor, stable suspension, horrible rear sightlines (thanks to the sexy rear window) but it was a very nice car.

Of course, being a bit older and wiser now, I actually understand. I don't mind thrashing the odd Volvo every now and then, but I'm really happy not to be the one paying the bills.

 I feel that - you're right though - the S80 T6 is a fantastic car. Also includes the second-best OEM wheels of all time:

Amazing no better photos of those wheels exist. I've got to take a photo the next time I see one.

The S60R wasn't offered in an off yellow color, like the 850R, however.

And that's why the 850R is cooler.

...After sitting in that ice-blue C30 at the Chicago Auto Show, and the S80 V8 at the Grand Rapids Auto Show, my impression of Volvo has gone from moderately positive to overwhelmingly positive. Boring drivers aside, they are moderately exciting products that cater to a crowd with a greater "education" (as I'd care to define it) as to what they want in a car.

The solidity of the C30 was impressive, and I loved how personable the cabin was. Comfortable, yet sporty, and certainly an interesting and stand-out car when it comes to exterior looks and functionality. It is a shame it doesn't come with AWD, otherwise it may just be one of the most perfect cars ever created for a guy like me...

The 850 T-5R ('95) is the one you posted and is the one that came in yellow (and also black). The 850R ('96-'97) came in a multitude of colors, none of which were yellow.

Any of the Volvo "R" models are just pornography. I love Volvo's styling--no matter how "conservative" people may think they are.

volvo are possibly the most consistent mainstream company ever when it comes to designing good looking cars.

I love old volvo's, i hate new volvo's.

I mean, look at this beauty:

I think this Volvo is great!!

plus there are 3 volvo's in my family and i gotta say they are great cars!

So I'm the only hater? Sure they are fast cars, and sleepers at that, but can you really call that styling any better than ok?

Oh sod it I've already mentioned the styling a million times I'll just sit in a corner and ponder what makes Volvo's and Z8s 'good looking'.

Evolve + Volvo S40 =
...on the other side, I'm not quiet a fan of Volvo.
That is about 100 times worse than the normal car.
And this destroys the 850 T5-R:

As, while it was not offered in an off-yellow color for all I know, it was RWD.
Game. Set. Match.

I quite like Volvo.
They, for a long time, made cars that were robust and fairly distinct (Think Volvo 240). Styling is fairly consistent, and while it may not quite rival that of a similar BMW or Mercedes it is still very distinct, be it their "Brick" styling or the distinctive estates.
I've always loved the various Volvo R trim levels, and the 240 coupe.

Come on... Just look at it.

The 240, IMHO, would make a perfect sleeper car. It's RWD and commonly found with a manual transmission. Plus, the Ford 5.0 (apparently) fits in quite well.

Edit - Are the V70R models available with a stick? Anyone know?

Yes, as are S60Rs. In fact, anyone buying them with the automatic is getting screwed - not only are they losing nearly 40 pound-feet of torque, but the 0-60 time goes from 5.6 seconds with the manual to 7.4 seconds with the automatic - gotta be the worst drop due to a transmission in automotive history.

Dude, I so friggin' agree. Have you had the chance to drive a new S60 R yet?
OMG, the car drives so much better than what I would expect out of a Volvo performance model.

Not a new one no. I'd love to test drive one. What's even better than the exterior? Volvo has some awsome interiors as well, its just geniunely a nice place to be.
