I look at this car, and I'm not falling in love with the styling the way I did with the current S60. However, put on the next S60, it could look as good as the current one. However, it seems like Volvo is trying to fix something that isn't broken.

Oh, besides my rant...this car looks fantastic. Not sure what it would compete against but it looks like it would be successful.

This car looks pretty awesome. If they're competing with the 6 Series, S5 and the Mercedes uhhh... CLS(?) it ought to do alright. But I assume it'll be priced well above a similarly equipped Mustang...

Or is it more of a Z4/SL? I can't tell

I presume you mean Z4/SLK - the SL is a very different car to the Z4!

That said, I think it's closer to SL than it is SLK, in size at least. It's a 400hp GT, so you're talking Jaguar XK, BMW 6-Series, that sort of thing.

Sorry, hang on.

Recent years?

This.. this is Volvo we're talking about? as far as I can recall there is one thing Volvo has always been about - that being safety.
Their cars are built like tanks in the interest of keeping you safe.

We're talking about the same company right???

Haha. I was thinking the same thing.

And while I agree about technology taking control away from the driver and eventually leading to lazy driving, I really don't think it matters. The consumer doesn't care. And bureaucrats will do what they can to put themselves in the middle of things. But really, what specifically are we talking about?

Blind spot monitors? Adaptive cruise? City Safety? Man, no one goes around thinking, "oh great, my car will stop for me if I'm not paying attention, let m just ignore the road."

As for more boring? Well, about 0.1% of the population is interested in performance driving. Volvo is going to go ahead and not care.
