The 25 millionth Golf rolled off the production line in Wolfsburg on 23 March, 33 years after production began.

The first-ever production Golf was built in 1974. By 1977, a million had been built. Now in its fifth iteration, the Golf is still going strong. In fact, a slightly updated version of the Golf Mk1, with the interior of a Skoda Fabia, is still made in South Africa and sold as the budget Citi Golf.

The 25 millionth car is a 1.4 TSI fitted with DSG transmission, and was built at VW’s HQ. The Wolfsburg plant is the largest vehicle factory in the world under one roof. The factory grounds cover an area of 6.057 square kilometres, and it has its own hospitals, a train station and 75 km of roads.

Yet another testament to the awesomeness that is Volkswagen in nearly everything they do. I'm still rather fond of the early Golfs (Rabbit in America), and the late-model ones are certainly rather good as well (again the Rabbit in America). I've considered switching to the Golf from my Jetta with my next car purchase, so we'll see what happens...

You can expect that from VW. Good quality cars for a low price:tup:
Actually, you do have to pay for the quality. It's one of the most expensive cars in its class here.
