Those of you rolling in a Volkswagen Jetta or Rabbit that was hecho en Mexico, take note: VW is recalling 340,000 vehicles sold in the U.S. due to a headlamp defect. The recall stems from rubber caps that could be missing from the horizontal and vertical headlight alignment screws, something that's apparently required by federal safety standards. A V-Dub spokesman said that there was no danger to drivers, and beginning today, owners could have the parts replaced at a local Volkswagen dealer.

-> Which is which? Cars made in Mexico or China? :indiff:

Uhhh, this would effect only the Jetta in the United States since the Rabbit that we have here is screwed together in Wolfsburg (as I recall). Either way, its an easy fix. Just like Toyota's carpet issues, its something that had to be taken care of...

Hmmm. Mine was made in Germany. I guess I'm safe (Or at least whoever is driving my car now is.) Too bad. VW makes good cars. Sad to see them faced with this. Hopefully it won't cost too much.

Ah, the joys of building cars cheap in corrupt places....

Meh, its a minor issue. Although, as I recall, those little lights are pretty expensive to replace on the newer models. Volkswagen likes to put fancy little details in there, and if you look closely, you can see the VW emblem on the light-bulb tips.

But, if its just an adjustment bracket, you can probably be in-and-out of the dealer in 20 minutes (assuming there is a wait), no need to really even move it out of the service bay entrance...

My many trips to the Seattle area VW dealers in April say that the VW emblems are only on the Eos. I'm pretty sure they aren't on the Jetta and definitely not on the Rabbit unless it's an option I'm not aware of. But those lights are really fancy. They really do seem like a very complicated and expensive assembly. The GTI has auto leveling and all of those goodies that really don't do anything.

I believe the Emblems are on all of the new VW models, as I know I've seen them on the Passat, and I'm pretty sure of the same on the Rabbit/GTI/R32 and Jetta. Its an awesome level of detail, if you ask me, but, one that doesn't come cheap...

OK. I was pretty sure that they weren't on every car, but I could be wrong. And it has to be something very new because my '06 does not have them. But yes, i tis a very cool little trick.

Definitely on my Rabbit and I saw them on a Jetta just the other day. Both were MkV.

It was one of those little touches that just made my Rabbit cool. That and the rear emblem hiding the door latch. I still love telling people to open the back for me and then watching them stand there going, "uhhhh."

So am I just totally spacing on this? I wish I could just run out and look at my car right now. I do seem to recall seeing them on that Eos and looking with no success at other cars in the showroom. Could easily be me though...

EDIT: Ah. Got it. It looks like the Xenon projector lights do not have them. Just the standard bulb ones.
