My friends birthday is coming up and we have been talking for ages about going to Las Vegas but the thing we have been worrying about is how old you need to be to gamble or get into the casino's. I also heard you cant drink until your 21 but is that law enforced strictly? What about clubs and bars, Do they have age restrictions there too? Most nightclubs in the UK are for over 18's what about the US.

It would suck if we went to Las Vegas and to find out we couldn't do much because of our age. The group is aged 19-21 with the possibility of one 18yr old.

I would assume you'd have to be 21 and up, like most everywhere else in the US. The enforcement of the drinking age law varies a lot. I wouldn't count on getting in the 'real' clubs. I'm pretty sure gambling is 21+.

Don't even bother going if your not 21. I was there a few weeks ago and our qroup was having lunch at the hotel resturant when my wifes friend got carded even with her being 31 years old. I'm sure it's even worse at the clubs as you couldn't get in without an ID.

Yeah, don't go unless everyone is 21. I'm sure that if the law is enforced anywhere, it's probably enforced in Vegas.

You can be 18 and gamble in the United States but the only casinos that allow you in under 21 is Native American ran ones...which to my knowledge aren't in Vegas. But I agree with waiting till everyone is 21, it will make things much easier....oh and if you are planning on driving you will probably need someone who is in their mid 20's to hire a car for time you are there. They might have changed it but there are some companies that require you to be 25 to rent a car.

As a frequent visitor of Vegas, I'd share the sentiment expressed by those above. You can't do anything there (except play in an arcade and go to the buffet) unless you're 21. Even just getting from place to place will be difficult for you without getting harassed since they'll card you for walking through the casinos (which you'll have to do often).

But, that being said, as soon as you're 21, go immediately.

There's always Canada if you're just looking for somewhere to go overseas. I haven't been there myself yet, but Montreal is supposed to be a great time, it has a very vibrant downtown - and the drinking age there is 18.

The Casino de Montreal is (apparently) one of the 10 largest in the world and is located on Ile Notre Dame - yes, right in the middle of Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

You can go to Circus Circus, but you can't stay up late if your under 18. But there are tons of places to go to for people under 18, like a Sports arena that contains rock climbing, and other various sports. Thinking about it, there is Game Zone( I believe what it is called) its near the MGM Grand and the majority of Casinos have arcades and things like the Adventure Dome( is getting prepped for Halloween and which is in Circus Circus).I believe that you can go to certain night clubs if your 19 or 20.

The thing is we really wanted to go Las Vegas. Theres no other place like it in the world, no alternatives. Im definately going but it turns out, not just yet.

As for my friends birthday, we still got some time to decide where to go. I was thinking a skiing holiday in Europe, Canada sounds good but im not sure anyone else would be as enthusiastic, we were also thinking about Tokyo, Thailand or Dubai maybe even New York...

The drinking age (21) is pretty heavily enforced in the U.S., except for the seediest dive bars. And you don't have to be 25 to rent a car, but companies that do rent to 18+ charge more for "underage" drivers. I don't know how easy it would be to rent a car if you're under 25, and don't have a license from the U.S.

As someone who is 20 I am not allowed to rent a car, I tried at the beginning of the year when I went out to California.

I'm the youngest of my friends at 20, so we plan on going to Vegas next year for my 21st birthday. Can't wait!

I must be the only one that doesn't like Vegas! :dunce:

Anyhow, drinking laws are heavily enforced in the US, period. Its not like Europe where they don't give a crap.

You can see some shows if you are under 21, some of which are worth seeing. Overall though, its basically a place you go to get drunk, gamble, and cause trouble. And you should pack sunblock, if you are from London :p

If you want crazy wild partying, go some other country :p If you want to be blinded by 80 bajillion light bulbs and gamble gamble, go to Vegas!

But isn't prostitution legal in Vegas? That's a party right there!

Maybe 21 is the cutoff, not 18. But I've rented cars, and they just charge an extra fee.

I don't think its lega... I think they just can't control it.

And I think we all prefer to stay infection free

Doctor: Well, Bob, contrary to popular belief, what happens in Vegas doesn't actually stay in Vegas.
Bob: ...
Doctor: You have herpes.

Well, apparently, the hookers are inspected regularly! So its all good.

Still, bleh. And its not gonna be legal in Vegas  County is too big.

You could just go to Tijuana. You could get totally smashed and wake up in a tub of ice, missing a kidney. Personal preference I guess.

I'd like to be in a tub of ice in Las Vegas. Too hot. Looking a weather.com, it's 65°F at midnight there. In October. (18.3°C btw)

I can't stand the heat in Vegas... just too much for me.

High is 48 tomorrow here... low of 36 Cloudy and windy.

Snow comes soon.

And I think the US is a bit better about kidney losing than Tijuana. Just a bit.

I learned today that I could have gone to Vegas for a perfectly legitimate business trip, if only I had known about the event a bit sooner :grumpy:.

Well, if you're really into Casinos Michigan ain't a bad deal with the new one that just popped-up in New Buffalo and the re-done MGM Grand in Detroit. Problem is, its Michigan, and there is only so much cool to go around when it isn't car show season or race season...

I'm planning on a trip to Vegas soon-ish (I turn 21 in a little more than a month), but that all depends on if I'm going to North Carolina or Miami for spring break or summer vacation.

Miami, thats the ticket! The town is outrageously awesome, and if you can find a good hotel in Miami Beach (or downtown?), I guarantee you'll have a good time. Although, there is always that pesky age requirement for drinking... I didn't go clubbing, but I'd assume that it would be hard to get drinks at some of those places down in SoBe. That is, if you can afford to be in SoBe...
