I listen to a looot of music, every week I'm digging into new material. I started putting together my list of favorite music for 2018 and it just got out of hand. I managed to bring it down to 100 songs though and I'm sharing that with all of you music friends here today.
I've got it copied across YouTube, Spotify, and Google Play Music playlists separated into multiple genres. Find those links at the bottom of this post. There's also a master list of 100 songs I've linked here.

To be clear, this list is only comprised of music released in 2018. There was so much it was crazy! There's a wave going on right now and we're so lucky to be here for it! But of course that also means there's a ton to dig through, but it's all good, I've done a lot for you. No matter what genre you focus on, I've got something for you.
Only the top 20 are actually ranked in some kind of a loosely preferred order. I'm against the idea of ranking or scoring music. The top 20 are just songs that are most important to me in some way + they sound goddamn amazing. Just go through on shuffle or however you'd like, and enjoy. AND, if you do enjoy something, definitely let me know! I love talking and sharing music. Onto more awesome music discoveries for '19!

Khruangbin - Cómo Me Quieres
-------------------------------------------
The 'crungbin' (it means airplane in Thai) sound can't be boiled down to type but if I had to pick one song to represent them it'd be this one. Laura Lee's bass is absolutely singing in this track. It adds such a special intimate character to a song on an already intimate album. The delicately layered keys and harmonies send the sound into the spirit realm. If you've never heard Khruangbin before I suggest you find a nice relaxing setting and let this song take you away.

Goat - Let It Burn

Goat is an incredible psych rock band from Sweden that is heavily influenced by world music. They haven't released much material in the past couple years so Let It Burn was an absolute gift 2018. I can't get enough of this sound. The fuzz tones, the ritualistic drumming, the grungy duet vocals, Goat continues to evolve, shine, and surprise with unstoppable talent.

Altin Gün - Kaymakamin Kizlari
------------------------------------------
Anatolian rock is folk flavored hard rock from Turkey. Altin Gün takes this sound and doesn't just revive it, they make it their own. A project out of Amsterdam, this is the sound that bursts out when true love for a sub-genre meets incredible talent. I haven't stopped regular listens of their album 'On' since I was introduced to them on their KEXP debut. It's the first song they played and it knocked me over the head like a love brick. Mamas Gun - I Need A Win

This song sounds straight out of the Motown hit factories. I was absolutely floored to realize this was released in 2018. It's one of the greatest pop songs I've ever heard, bar none. The vocals are an absolute jewel in this crown of a record. It's also criminally underplayed, so please share this one.
*Unfortunately this song is geographically restricted on Spotify and Google Play Music so you'll have to stream it on YouTube or buy it on Amazon, iTunes, etc. Which I highly recommend doing!

Travis Scott - SICKO MODE ft. Drake
--------------------------------------------------
This is peak hip hop in the trap era. Travis Scott continues to influence the game with thoughtful crafting and substance. He's applied everything he's learned so far into this track I think he's hit it out of the park. The producers listed on this track read like a hall of fame. Each one of the three phases could stand on their own but Travis decided to combine them into one mural masterpiece of sound.

Free Nationals - Beauty & Essex (feat. Daniel Caesar & Unknown Mortal Orchestra)

Smoothest bass line of 2018. These guys are bringing R&B back to its roots. Free Nationals are Anderson Paak's main musical collaborators and I'm so glad they've branched off to make their mark on this golden era of R&B. They're mega talents and this is only a slice of their potential. Featuring UMO front man Ruban Nielson just turns this jam into a gem.

Haley Heynderickx - The Bug Collector

This song immediately touched my core. Something about it grabbed and just wouldn't let go. The lyrics engaged me so personally, it's rare for me to feel like a song can be truly therapeutic. This one is like a spirit cleanse. I really cherish the feeling that Haley is able to achieve with her album 'I Need To Start A Garden' and Bug Collector is definitely my favorite. Hauntingly beautiful, driving bass with motivational energy behind the vocals. I have a feeling I'll keep going back to this one for a very long time.

Kadhja Bonet - Mother Maybe

Kadhja Bonet's voice is unbelievable, from another time. The production style on this song off her first album Childqueen is retro but the structure is timeless. Mother Maybe is a perfect representation of what makes Kadhja great. Intricate patterns woven through out, she plays every single instrument on the record. It's soulful, it's nostalgic, it has a touch of psychedelia and I can't wait for more.

Anderson .Paak - The Chase ft. Kadhja Bonet

Anderson did not disappoint with his latest and greatest album, Oxnard. 'The Chase' is the first song up and gets things going perfectly. This track is has more soul than a graveyard. The way the song evolves from beginning to end makes every listen feel like an adventure. Every aspect of Paak's talent shows up in force and having Kadhja open on it sent me spinning. Paak is the nu-soul we all need to pay attention to.
