I finally got around to upgrading my PS3's HD. Did a full system backup (using the utility in the OS) to an external drive, installed the new drive. Restored from the external, everything appeared to transfer over (including save files). Go to load up GT5...it hangs during the opening splash screens, never getting to the one where you have to it "Ok" when it says "Accessing Game Data."

Figuring that something might've gotten corrupted in the transfer process, I backup my save file to the external drive just in case. I then delete the game's install data. Go to load up the game, and it prompts me for the install. Run through it, and everything appears to be working just fine...my cars and progress were intact. Playing around a bit more, I notice some things didn't quite make the transfer...

-Half my cars lost their thumbnails completely, some weren't accurately showing repaints/wheels. Easily repaired by manually creating thumbnails, just time consuming.
-All of my photos, replays, and created tracks...GONE. Guess these are stored in the install data instead of the save file.'
-My preorder/collectors cars needed to be redownloaded from PSN.
-Also, just noticed that any lap times set in practice mode are also gone.

Just a heads up to anyone who's considering doing a HD upgrade...you may encounter these same issues.

For Replays and Photo's you need to export them or else they remain in the games installed files.

Thumbnails are indeed part of the game install, and DLC should have been obvious.

I did a transfer to a new ps3, I lost the thumbnails but I kept the dlc cars.
Did you deactivate your account and then reactivate after changing the hdd?

Yeah, I had to do that to get some purchased games to work.

I had the same issue with hanging in the splash screens, but not right after my HDD upgrade. For me it was several weeks later. I tested the game with my brother's account on the PS3 and still hanging. I concluded it was a bad game file so I deleted and re-installed making sure to back up my save game to USB first. All fixed now, or maybe not. I still have some issues with longer than normal load screens. As an example, when leaving a race screen it seems to stay on the "GT" for longer than it used to. I am considering the possibility that my PS3 is on its way out. Not out of the question since it is a launch day fat 60gb.

Out of curiosity what HDD did you install? I used a WD Scorpio 7200 RPM 320gb.

5400rpm 500GB Seagate Momentus (just the regular, not the XT).

I upgraded my PS3 HDD yesterday - ran into a few minor glitches (nothing I couldn't figure out), but nothing related to GT5 i.e. the game ran fine, and my savegame was completely intact afterwards.
