Hello all, not 100% convinced on the direction GTS has taken us but i'm enjoying it anyway.

My question is, was I naive to think that Sport Mode wouldn't require a ps plus subscription? I understand that it is technically 'online racing' but the impression I had from news etc was that just the Lobby would need Ps plus.

It's not quite a deal breaker for me but I can see why some would feel let down with the content without the online side of things. Hopefully they add regular offline races/challenges aginst the AI in the coming weeks.

Every full title on PS4 that has an online component where you play with or against other players requires PS Plus. This is literally what PS Plus is for.

Sport Mode is the online component of GT Sport where you play with or against other players.

I get that but maybe I just couldn't believe such a huge part of the game would be classed as online.

Kaz's 15% comment keeps popping into my mind. I'm thinking that the 15% will more likely be closer to the time we will play the offline modes!

I'm ever hopeful that more campaign stuff will come in the future which will be closer to the regular events we had on GT5 and 6.

But that's what Sport Mode is: the online multiplayer bit of GT Sport - and the bit that took its name from the title, which itself comes from "Esports", which is competitive... online multiplayer.

Every full PS4 title requires PS Plus for the online multiplayer bit. So naturally Sport Mode needs PS Plus.

This is going to be a huge boost in the bottom line with the people buying monthly Plus access for 10 bucks. Not having the traditional GT Career Mode is going to send people to race online and that comes with a fee.

Well some games have some part of online and dont require psn plus. Im still without psn plus and pretty happy with that. And pretty happy with gts without psnplus

What is career mode ? For me its events of racers where you race againts AI. And all that is in arcade mode. Even custom race were its even more capabilitys.
Gts arcade mode is better then poor career mode in GT6. Real career mode last time was in GT4.

Only free to play ones, every other title requires PS+.

As such GTS was always going to require PS+ for its on-line component.

As you say, Sport mode is the what the game is based around and as such should have been covered within the purchase price of the game and not an ongoing subscription in my opinion.

I'll keep playing as long as my interest stays high and I'll wait for the 85% of offline content to come along.

Actually you pay a subscription service to be on line from home , you pay to watch shows on tv that are not shown on free over the air channels, you pay to talk or surf the web on your phone, why should gaming on line be any different? Actually with an annual psn subscription it is only 5 dollars a month, includes all online content from all of your owned Playstation Games and you also get free games to play from psn.

As a value for a gamer it is probably one of the cheapest things you pay to have unlimited access each month.

I'd say I probably would not be as happy with the game IF I did not have a PS+ sub. But I don't recall any multiplayer that works without PS+, not even ESO which is unplayable offline.

On the demo or the full game?
Full game

I've never had ps plus and I've played a few online games..project cars and COD comes to mind. Needing ps plus to play online is news to me.

In this regard, PS4 is different from any PlayStation that came before. There is no more free online multiplayer. A few demos may have this, but in limited capacity and for a very limited time (as with the GT Sport demo). So the free online racing we enjoyed in GT5 and GT6, which we got by simply having a PSN account, those days are gone. I've never had PS Plus before but I will be signing up for GT Sport. The best deal is $60 for 1 year, which equals $5 per month. Pretty good if you ask me... assuming the servers are available most of the time! LOL!

Point taken about the PS Plus, I actually agree that it's required. I suppose my actual issue boils down to the lack of offline interest. I worry what we'll do when the servers have issues, we know we can't save our progress anyway which probably doesn't matter anyway as there's precious little to do of long term interest.

If you use cdkeys.com PSN+ is currently about £1.50 a month for the 12 month one. (price the other day was £37 - 5% if you look at their facebook). I don't see that as a big issue really.

Its possible for sub accounts to play online without PSN+ if the master account on the PS4 has PSN+ so thats why some may be playing without PSN

How much time have you played? It gives you the first 48 hours as free trial for PS Plus, and then you have to pay. The cheapest plan costs $5 a month, if you prepay for a whole year.
Since launch...since the demo actually. The only charge I get from psn is for spotify.

I can assure you that's not going to last.

New owners can get trial periods of varying degrees, but all non free to play titles need PS+ for competitive online.

From what I can see its a gt sport issue not psn
The only game I have played innabiut a year is the GTS Beta, Demo, and now full game. During the Beta, I don’t have Plus. I bought a one month card for the demo to see if I would actually commit to the full game.

I am disgusted. I never read that I would need PS plus and have to pay a monthly fee to play the Game ! I already paid £49 for it ! Now they want me to pay every month ???? Jeez. Forget it. It's going to the computer exchange whilst it's still worth something !

Its not just GTS, its every title on the PS4 (and Xbox for that matter) that isn't free to play that requires PS+ for online play.

It does say it on the back of the box and on the store for the digital version.

Personally I've been on PS+ since the PS3 days, as the free games make it worthwhile for me, as well as the ability to play on-line.

Wait, do not buy the 1 month subscription. Just pay the 1 year model. The price is not the same as £6.99 x 12 months = £83.88. The best value is to buy the 1 year, £49.99 per year.

FYI if you buy PS Plus this month, you will still have a chance to get Metal Gear Solid V for free. (Including Sky Force Anniversary). Those games will keep you entertained if you bored with GT. And some time later you will know what value PS Plus offer to you.

I only bought the PS4Pro for GT Sport. I don't play anything else on Playstation. I aren't interested in shooting games. I can play the excellent World of Tanks on the PC and the game AND the online services are free ! And check out World of Warplanes and Wrld of Warships. All free (just takes an entire afternoon to download that's all.

Think about how they are able to provide that service for free. They have a different way of making money: (micro-)transactions. In the end the money to run an online service comes from customers somehow. :)

Spot on mate.I agree.
With that said

"(micro-)transactions"

Should not be in GTS in any form.

Ahh i see.I totally misunderstood regarding ps+ membership.
I know the sport mode is online but i thought you could play the 3 sport mode races without ps+ and you would only need it to join the multi-player hoppers and lobbys.
