Ah, Go Karts.
When it comes to bang-for-buck motorsports, you just can't beat a Go Kart! They're easy to build, simple to maintain, and cheap to run. Nobody can deny their sheer performance. They zip around tight tracks with ease, cling to corners like glad wrap, and give whoever's driving them a rush of speed like no other. All over the world there are various small-time local kart tracks, each offering the general public the chance to experience a real Formula-style race. For some, it's the closest they'll ever get to a serious race. To others, it's a means of keeping themselves occupied during the off-season. Either way, go karts are quite simply the backbone of modern motorsports.
But with all that grip and the ultra low centre of gravity, do you think you'd be able to roll one?
Steve Daniel says yes!
Steve "The Maori" Daniel is a Kiwi broadcaster, often spotted at Speedway and Drifting events. His loud mouth and larger than life personality makes him a bit of a celebrity in the New Zealand racing scene. He was selected to captain a team for the annual Spaceworks Movember 200, a charity event aimed at supporting Men's health, funding research into such things as testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and other nasties no man wishes to get. Things were going well for Daniel in the main event, he was in a fierce battle pack and was pushing for a higher placing. However he tried to sneak up an inside line that perhaps wasn't there...
Swerving to go for the outside
On second thought, the inside line seems much more appealing!
Oops...
Caught between his rival and the wall, Daniel struck the wall, getting violently flipped upside down, shearing a wheel off and coming to rest just ahead of his rivals. The race was, understandably, red flagged, with officials literally sprinting to aid him. He got out by himself, and claimed to be just fine, despite a bruised ego. After being checked to make sure he was certainly a-ok, he was given a new kart and sent on his way. This was the first such occurence for the Formula E Indoor Raceway in their 9 years of operating.
Give this kid a spot in the next Olympics!
"Allgood, I'll walk it off."
