Hi, I dont really post much in the Xbox forum as dont have an Xbox or 360 but I have been following this guys progress on another forum to create a really cool water cooling setup for his 360, if you follow through the thread the results are amazing but probably took alot of nerve and alot of cash! It worth a see.... There are loads of mods that he has done and it is impressive... I cant wait to see the first modded / water cooled PS3!

Taken from Xbox Scene....

Water cooling is really a great thing, but it should be standart. I mean, come on, the 360 is freaking loud. After even one or two hours of playing my ears have a slight "szzzzzzzz" sound....

Isn't it liquid cooled anyway?

One of the surprises we found when checking the Xbox 360 innards was its cooling solution. To keep things quiet and cool, Microsoft has designed a liquid cooling system that dynamically adjusts the flow of the liquid and the speed of the fans depending on the temperature and power consumption.

You know what'd be even cooler? A system that didn't have overheating problems...

I've heard that Microsoft has just started releasing the "V2" Xbox360 with a different CPU cooling system that works much better than the one that launch units used.

Like a PS2? My first one overheated and died, the second one had the CD/DVD spinner cease and blew up GT4, and the thrid one is still going although it gets hot as hell.

Its loud because of these reasons:

DVD drive
Fans having to run at full RPM, because ther about 60mm. If they were 120mm, then the 360 would have to be bigger then the Xbox. While the fans running at low RPM.

Would you rather have the 360 having the right amount of cooling from the fans, or would you rather have the 60mm fans running at low RPM. Which would cause the 360 to go into full meltdown.

The power adaptor makes a lot of noise too. I was very surprised to hear it was that loud. If that wasn't making such a din I wouldn't think the fans in the 360 would sound so bad. It's when the DVD Drive spins to full speed when anything from the 360 itself gets loud IMO.

Nah it isnt, maybe it was going to be then Microsoft dropped it, it uses a large heatsink with heatpipes that is ducted to 2 exsaust fans.... and apparently it can get quite noisy....

Water cooling is a good idea but not for portability and also which such a new expensive piece of kit i would be scared to leave it alone when its on for fear of leaks.

Well, actually I wouldn't care if the 360 is three times as big as long it has an acceptable level of loudness.
Whatever, I guess I'll have to live with it as it is ...loud....
