Water spiraling down the drain???

So as most of us know, in the Northern hemisphere, water spirals down the drain or toilet in one direction while it spirals in a different direction in the southern hemisphere (not sure which is clockwise and anticlockwise).

But what would happen if a toilet was situated right at the equator? How would the water go down?

The Coriolis effect doesn't affect such small bodies of water as toilet bowls anyways, so this is a myth. Even a toilet bowl a mile wide couldn't show the effects of the Coriolis Effect. The direction of rotation of a draining sink is determined by the way it was filled, or by vortices introduced while washing.

Im assuming it would rise up instead of down out of the toilet onto the unfortunate toilet users face.



They tried this on Brainiac and it didnt really follow a certain pattern which way the water went. It would go either way.

Machone is right for once, it really doesn't make a difference in such a small body of water. It really depends on the toilet as to which way it flushes, go test it out wherever you live and I bet you'll find that the water runs both ways. It's the same in the southern hemisphere.
