We need a new Doom!

One of the greatest series of games of all time were the Doom games. First time i played this was on my brother's PS1, and i was hooked. Bought a PS1 for this game alone and played Doom/Doom2/Final Doom constantly. Since i got rid of my PS1 ages ago, and the games, i only ever play it on my laptop, but i miss the superior sound and lighting of those PS1 versions. Never played Doom 3, but heard it was a bit rubbish, and just not Doom. A pity they based the movie on Doom 3. Anyway, a HD update of the originals(like what they did with God Of War) or even a new Doom game(but in the style of the originals) would be very welcome! What do you all think? I have mentioned the HD updates in the 'PS1 classics for PSN' thread, but thought this deserved a thread of its own.

There are several projects that enable rendering Doom in higher resolutions or replace the bitmap objects with 3D.
I prefer using the original data and just render it at higher res: http://sourceforge.net/projects/doomlegacy/files/

They're going to be making a Doom4. Dunno how its going to be though. I liked Doom3 alot. Never played its expansion though. I like Doomsday for playing my old Doom games. It also does Hexen and Heretic. Both of them are pretty cool as well.

Doom 3 was amazing even on the xbox with co-op campaign. I would love to see another Doom game for sure.

Also loved Hexen, but on the Saturn. The PS1 version was poor. Never played Doom3 only going on what some people have said. Would like to play it though, just to see what it's like. If they really are making a Doom4 that'd be brilliant, but it needs to be in the style of the first 2 - loads of wide open levels with hundreds of monsters roaming about for you to blast. Doom3 looked to me like just another Aliens-style corridor shooter, and it isn't Doom. Unfortunately they based the movie on the third game. Mistake.
