The very first one used in episode one will be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson (on SPEED) tomorrow night!
The Challenger was introduced in 1970, not the 440. The Charger had this option from 1967 onward. The '68 Charger's in Bullitt were 440-powered, and unmodified as well...^That's correct, the Challenger does not have the black grill cover hiding the headlights, the Charger does.
As far as the body, the only major difference between '69 and 70' were the rear tailights.
But, 1970 is the year Dodge introduced the infamous 440...![]()
Yep, I think it averages out to about 1 car per episode, or at least one car per massive jump. And out of all those, only a handful are still around somewhere. Some have been restored or are in that process, others are just buckets of rusting steel or unfortunately a long-ago cube. If you want some stuff to read, Inside Line covered a restoration a few years back, and the Smith Bros. have a few under their belts.I read they wrecked about 300 Chargers doing the show. I'll bet that put a dent in the remaining population.
You might wish to try the game Driver San Fransisco for your Dukes of Hazard fantasies, not only does it include a Charger but there's even a 'movie-mission' where you are chased by period police cars down a dirt road driving an orange Charger.
It even has the right pastiche soundtrack for that mission.
