Weaker car more reward

Greetings all Grand Turismo fans, I have GT: Prologue. But, I would like to borrow and tweak a feature from other racing games.

Sorry but the name of the actual racing game has escaped from my memory.

The implementation is simple. I believe that this currently features more so in online rankings scoring/levels, I think it does, if it doesn't it should; best if I explain you beat a stronger car online in a weaker car.

Your 'Online' scores higher as not only did you beat a player/car that is levelled or ranked higher than you. They, however loose many more points than before. As your ranked lower, plus in a slower car.

Also this can be fun in single player modes as well.

Lets say you beat a Ferrari F40 with a Mini Cooper. Won't happen IRL. The the credits earnt/awarded will be greater if you raced in an event in a far superior car.

I appreciate that this can be abused. Where as in a online lobby, 7 out of 8 racers are in weaker car, there's always going to be one who will select the fastest car availble. But maybe they will not be rewarded as before. As you won't score as much. Maybe its for private 'ranked' lobbies.

So fellow fans, do you agree is this a silly idea, what are your thoughts and suggestions.

Too hard to regulate, the Elise wins on handling, but how can you rank a car's handling and decide who has the better car? Only NFS does that. It's a novel idea, but I'd rather see it just as trying to match you into a race where you're up against evenly matched cars on PWR.

Yeah, I understand your comments. Maybe putting to much impact into the reward itself could be the actual regulator.

I never played previous GT games online, though I have played this online. Such as in Forza online the higher ranked online players. At times chose the weaker car to what was available. Most of the time they won the race. At the end of the day they were/are in theory the better racer.

Pie in the sky it is, littered with optimism, the races maybe policed as the reward for being in the faster car is less, then over a period of time, people will be fairer and we'll all have a more varied car choses. The races would be much more fun.

On a selfish note. I am not that great at racing the fastest cars in the game, at least people like me will be rewarded, so poorer racers will benifit for choosing a car that they can control, not what they cannot. Less people being taken out by others.

I play this game almost exclusively online, except when I must complete the mission to unlock the cars. I probably used the tuned elise like 3 times, may be less.

The problem is not the car, the problem is the format of the race. When you allow everything in a single race, seeing 12 tuned elise in a field of 16 is not unusual.

Thanks PD!

 I'll probably be so excited to get in an online race don't be surprised if you end up lapping me in an Alfa Romeo 147 2.0, because that's what I'll probably get for my first car.

I go online with mainly sports games. Sportsmanship with other players will decrease if you play for ranks and such, people will abuse cheats just to win at all cost to increase their online records.

Including online race rewards and such would ruin the sportsmanship of the game. I can see people quitting races left and right when they cannot win or purposely driving to take out the other cars to seal their wins. Finding ways to glitch out of the races and such to save embarassment to their score or sabitoging another racer for their reward.

The reward should be knowing in yourself that you selected an underdog and still finished top.

You should know that if you got within a couple seconds from that superior car using an inferior car, smile and know that you drove well against that other driver.

I can see a good reason to suggest this idea: it is to encourage players to select other cars instead of going for the all out best or fastest.
I agree with that part of it.

My first post was in regards to keeping stats or points that would make gamers seek all out win at all cost.

Maybe the reward would be a BONUS multiplier to your winnings. If you don't take the full QTS limit or if you take a slower car, you should be aware that in this race by your slower setup, let your winnings include a BONUS multiplier so you receive more money for that race.

This was in GT4. Its called a-spec points. The weaker your car is compared to others the more points you would get. Im sure it will be in gt5 but not sure if you will be rewarded with any extra winnings, Just a 200 point pat on the back.

@BreakerOhio: When you want to add something to what you just said there's no need to write a new post, just edit the first one.

@Wegberg: There are games that reward you if you race with a weaker car. Like deadlyz33 wrote, GT4 had the A-Spec points to reward that, and EPR had its game structure (and progression) intimately linked to such "calculations".

However, I agree with BreakerOhio. That feature is good to offline gaming, but I'm not so sure about using it in online races.

Cheers all, I never knew it was implemented in GT4 so to speak. (I'm a converted 360 user).

Its going to be difficult to add this in the game, as many will race in the fastest car. To be able to compete when racing online. BreakerOhio, I agree:

"You should know that if you got within a couple seconds from that superior car using an inferior car, smile and know that you drove well against that other driver."

That's how I like to play, I know I'm not the best, but I am gonna try, to win.

That's what I'll do in my Alfa Romeo too :dopey: I know I'll lose, but if I put up a fight doing it 💡
I like the A-Spec points idea, they're just superficial things to have, but they would be nice to have, a little visual self-reward.
PS- Are there replays and cash winnings in online races?

Prize Money yes. Replays no.

@nd 4 holden spd:
Than let's hope for one-type online races, I'll bet we'll meet racing that Alfa in the Alfa 147 Cup :sly:

If you have the Alfa we should try and get in an online race together. 👍 Let the fast cars run off by themselves, we'll have our own little scrap. :dopey:
