The Car: Arcade Oreca Viper (racing setting, not drift)

The Track: Laguna Seca

The Race: Arcade mode normal difficulty. (3 laps)

The Rules:

1. You must have 2 tires on the track at all times.
2. The rumble strips are considered part of the track.
3. No wall riding or touching.
4. No cutting the grass or short cutting.
5. No hybrids
6. No cheating of any kind.

On the subject of AI contact...
Try to avoid contact. Only light contact is acceptable.
No contact that results in your advantage.

Good luck!

Gave this a quick try. Looks like we'll be mixing it up with the AI for a lap or so. What are the rules for AI contact? And do we have to be "hot lap" clean for the whole race?

Looks good, Kent. Once again I'm looking forward to start racing. :)

seems like a good choice again - esp running the three laps with the AI

It will be clean laps - BUT not as clean as the hot laps I would presume. I would have thought AI contact would be OK as long as you dont make any time advantage on impact

One question, Kent... although it may sound a bit stupid :dunce:
Is this the 'normal' arcade race?
I just want to be sure :)

hmmmmm.....that is all I will say on this one.

;)

edit: just did 6 laps (2 races) with the DS2....the viper is actually well behaved even in the corkscrew. Now the R390 and GTone ramming me from behind most of the first lap isn't so fun....but you know...hahaha.

The Race: Arcade mode normal. (3 laps)

Neil, I'm going to break you this week. Im not finishing way down at the bottom of div 2 again after my impressive run two weeks ago !!!! Watch out !!

Is this the same car (hp) that they use in the S license test at Laguna? If so, we all have a nice standard to set our individual lap times to. Still I don't imagine I'll manage three gold runs in a row with AI cars. : )

Alright fellas... to answer some questions...

First, I do want these clean... you may mix it up with the AI just a tiny bit, but nothing that creates an advantage.
No off track errors. The AI is one thing, off tracks are another.

Second, yes this is the normal arcade mode race. 3 laps, normal arcade.

Third, the license...

No, I do not think this is the same car. Why you ask?
I ran the license last night for giggles and guess what? Gold for the license is set to 1.16.8, but as Im sure all of you have noticed, in this arcade car, you can lap far faster than that.

So unless I found some major skills in arcade mode, I would say that no, this is not the same car as what you find in the super license test.

Now to recap...
No off tracks
No advantages from AI contact
No this is not the car from the license test
Yes this is a normal arcade 3 lap race

Good luck racers. ;)

I think in the S licence, the concept Viper is used. I may be wrong though. Plus, in licence tests ASM & TCS are disabled so we will be much more stable in arcade mode.

Loosing from you guys in a cherry picking contest is one thing, but racing with the crappy AI cars on the same track?

Oh my god! We've got a mad scientist for a race organizer!

I'll see what I can do this week. Now where can I find those T8's in arcade mode?

No, GoKents got it, not me... :D

I think there is a license with the concept Viper, but it isn't in the super class. The super license is the oreca, I'm guessing that it doesn't have as much hp as the arcade version if GoKents didn't in fact find some major skills when switching to the arcade version. :)

Boom set up a race like this at one point too. I had fun with it before. I'll be this one is entertaining to say the least. I'm more confident with my racing line at laguna than midfeild anyway.

Hey, I can turn ASM and TCS off in the game options menu, is that legal? (I'm assuming it is for now).

Yes indeed.

All the tcs or lack there of that you want.

So in other words, yes, you can run with the tcs on or off.

My suggestion actually got in for a race :D

Will give this a run for sure, this is the only race a mate of mine will do when we have an I-link, he doesnt win that often though :D:D

umm... so we are racing on easy in arcade mode then and not free run? or is it free run and your best 3 laps?

i am a little confused

Ving, it is a 3 lap arcade race.

I believe easy is 2 laps...
Do normal. (4 laps)

So lets get this right...

Normal, 3 lap, arcade race with the oreca viper at laguna.
Not a free run.

At the moment it looks like another .7 seconds is all I'm going to get. There is definitely one set of cars that makes it easier to pass in the beginning.

ok so a few days ago I commented about the Castrol Supra that I didn't love it or hate it but can't see myself ever using it again. Well I was wrong. I now have a reason to use it. As far as FR race cars go I'd take that Supra over a Dodge viper any day of the week.

I don't think I have ever been jealous of the other cars on the circuit as I am running in this race, well other than the poor sap in the camero.

I personally think cherry picking races that only suit your driving style or interest is sorta lame (don't flame me, I'm not pointing at anyone) so I will grin and bear this one and give it the old college effort. Driving a car that makes my skin crawl will teach me something I am sure.

The saving grace is at least it is a circuit I love and as far as big dumb american cars go in GT3 the viper is the least offensive big dumb american race car....

:banghead: <----- never thought I'd use that little icon deal but I'll be doing that all week.

EDIT: I just noticed something, I vaguley remember reading something about this here too. Do the AI cars speed up on the final lap? Do they all of the sudden decide to step on the gas or make a clean line? I've done 5 races now and ALWAYS on the final lap that damn GTone of R390 come blarring up behind me no matter how much of a lead I have (between .800-2.7secs I've had...)....Also that GT40 is sure purty.....I do love that car and yes I know it is American, but it is of an era when American race cars were sorta cool...plus being the Ferrari fan I am I gotta appreciate what that car did to my ole' scuderia....
