Hi

I am playing with weight control and with the description of front/rear balance it says 'for cars that are front heavy' or 'for cars that are back heavy' my question is how do you know if your car is front heavy or back heavy? :)

also anyone have any good settings for an EVO 6 in terms of ASM and weight control?? don't have suspension tuned yet just bog standard :)

Cheers.

Cars that are front heavy have engines in front Example (viper). Any Mid engine car is slightly back heavy and a rear engine is back heavy. and your better off without asm.

I'm no car guru but I would assume a car that is front heavy would be a car that has its engine in the front, FF,FR, and most 4wd (if not all ?? ). and a back heavy car would be a car that has a mid or rear engine placement MR or RR.

>.< beat me to it ....

sometimes. the viper is not an average FR car, it's got this massive engine. something more common line an mx5 or rx7 or wrx is likely to have closer to 50/50 weight balance

In-game, your only way to guess at weight balance is to look at the stock spring rates on the Racing Suspension.

This works from the assumption that these rates are a snapshot of the static balance of the car (which may or may not be true).

However, the best way is to research the car on the net to see if it's weight distribution has been published anywhere.

Failing that, if it's an FR car then it's a pretty safe bet that the weight balance is somewhere between 56/44 and 50/50 with 52/48 being fairly common.

what does FR,FF etc... stand for? :)

btw the EVO 6 is a 4WD also when you say 50/50 weight balance do you mean set ballast to 50 and front/rear weight to 50?

cheers :)

FR = Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive
FF = Front Engine, Front Wheel Drive
RR = Rear Engine, Rear Wheel Drive
4WD = Four Wheel Drive (aka AWD)

Weight Distribution is the percentage of weight that lies forward and rearwards of the cars physical centre point. It has nothing to do with ballast per se, although you can add ballast to the car (as they now simulate in the game) to alter the weight distribution, at the expense of making your car heavier.

I hope that clarifies things. Don't be afraid of asking questions by the way, it's the only way you learn. That is provisory on the fact that they haven't already been covered in the forums of course ("Search" is a very, very good tool for preventing being flamed :D).

imo people who flame are internet nerds

in MR cars, i always put at least 20 ballast and 20 of that ballast in the rear, automatically. then i tune accordingly

The Evo is very front heavy. I believe the distribution is around 60/40. If you want to add ballast it would need to go to the rear, but I think it's best to work on the suspension first and then use weight as a last resort in balancing a car.
