Weird GT2 Problem

So I bought a copy of GT2 yesterday as my last one's broken. It worked okay the first two or three times I played it but I've just put it in my PS2 and something weird is happening, it loads the language select screen, but if I press anything on my controller, nothing happens. Now, my controller works fine, I can play other games without fail. But there's no response on the language select screen, thus limiting any further progress, hence making the game unplayable. What could it be?
 
Sounds like you've got a scratch somewhere that's positioned just right to make it not load that particular part of the game.

Check your disk; if it's a scratch on the top (printed) side of the disk, there's nothing you can do. If it's on the black side of the disk, there are various ways to repair it, though many of them will be more expensive than just buying another copy.
 
Yea, that would be my guess too. Some sort of defect with the disc and the player can't get past this. See if you can get new (as in "NEW", not used) disc if you can.
 
Well weirdly enough my GT2 disc seems to be working fine again. Thanks for the help anyway and if it happens again, I'll be buying a brand new copy.
