At first it would only do it when I played Grid. For some reason it gets these weird "tags" on things like the cars, always starting at the corner and it takes the form of a line, could be thick could be thin, that stretches out to the edge of the screen. Sometimes the entire sky will blotted out by a sheet of ??whatever" , and I have even had times when I've gone back into a saved race and the whole ground would be WHITE. Other times these anomolies take the form of a black wall that passes though the feild or in the sky and in Grid if it happened in one lap it would be there for each consecutive lap after words. Any car that may have had a tag in on it will keep it through the whole race. I got kind of used to it in Grid and it seemed to be the only game that would do this but recently its started happening in other games. A week ago one of the kids fired up Motorstorm and it had these tags in it. Not just a little bit either but it seemed to be on half the cars. Then today one of the kids put in Devil May Cry 4 and tags. My kids play Warhawk a lot and have reported similar anomolies. I haven't run a cleaning disc in it for a couple months, but I keep tjhe game discs clean, and cleaning never stopped it from happening before when I played Grid all the time. Anybody have a clue as to whats going on???

Your GPU is going out. You can try to prevent it by disconnecting all power sources and getting some compressed air and a vacuum, get most of the dust out of it.

Either way, it's likely too late, you'll have to Call Sony and see if they will send you another one.

How long have you had your system?

ITs about two years old. This is like the third Sony oroduct to go out for me. I am waiting fora mailing label to send my PSP off to get fixed. If I had bought the PS3 new I'd have bought the 2 year plan for it. Too bad. I had a PS2 I had bought new two months before I bought the PS3 and it started skipping discs :indiff: Its just too expensive of a system to have problems with already.

No thats the fourth. Darn it EVERY PEICE OF SONY I have EVER bought has not lasted NEARLY as long as it should have. That PSP is the second one I have had. The first one I had to take back within the first 5 days because the wifi was faulty.I think its about time to change a favorite phrase of mine from peice of s*** to peice of sony,. both are four letter S words. Man the dough I dropped on that system could have bought me An Ibanez Artist...top of the line.

Mine s fine and I've had it for a while. Are you keeping your area clean and dust free? Dust can kill a computer if you don't keep the room clean and vaccum regularly.

there is less dust here in my new apartment than in my old one. Man that place was dustiest place I have ever lived, and I live in Oregon, and theer was a GREEN lawn around the entire complex...heck my new place has a dirt driveway that runs the length of my apartment.

I took the intercoolers off and although theer was some dust there wasn't a heck of a lot of it. I keep computers blown down with canned air. I admit that I have been tempted to take it apart and blow it out just in case I have hesitated on the hope that if I haven't messed with it that if need be Sony could still repair it for me. I do my own PC and Laptop maintenance but then again those are user serviceable, the PS3 being a computer is still a bit different. I am goingto go over the you tubed tutorials on fixing the yellow light of death problem in order to get "peek" inside without violating my own just yet.👍

...what do you mean "intercoolers"?

Please tell me you did not buy one of those crazy devices that are supposed to "keep the system cool"...

The reason I say that is because those will actually destroy your system because they do nothing but hamper the airflow of the system and cause it to cook itself. It's likely, if you had one of those on, that you are responsible for the system dying.

^ What he said,

When I saw the word intercooler, I instantly thought 'oh dear...' :ouch:

You do know those things actually hinder airflow, they are considered an accessory which voids your PS3's warranty and many machines have been damaged because of people using them. Intercoolers are a total gimmic as a manufacturer wouldnt sell a machine which couldnt operate on its own in the hottest of climates.

As for those wierd line things im afraid your GPU might be cooked and thats something which can't be fixed yourself unless you live with it and hope that it doesnt get worse.

Robin.
