I took a look on play.com the other day, and saw friends series 10 box set or £15. I thought this was a really good deal, and decided to place an order. They turned up today, and I put disk 1 in my ps2, and started watching. I noticed that on the box of the dvd, it said that it contained 8 episodes. I could only find 4 on my ps2. I tried the second disk too, which also supposedly had 8 episodes on it. Again, i could only find 4. I stuck it in my phillips dvd recorder, and i still couldn't find the 4 missing episodes. At this point, i decided to try the third disk, which had the last ever episode, and some special features. The first thing i noticed, was that it looked completely different to the two other disks. Trying to ignore this, i stuck it in the dvd recorder. It wasn't recognised. So, i put it in my laptop's dvd drive, and it played. I stuck the other two disks in afterwards, and looked around for the missing episodes. They were nowhere to be seen. I double checked the dvd case, to make sure that there was no small print, and discovered a message saying "For rental or resale". Now, this is written on all of the cases, and two of the dvds. I'm beggining to wonder if play.com is selling me illegal dvds. Not only are they illegal, but they are faulty.

Here is the disks and the cases:

This is the message on the back of each case:

And here it is on one of the disks:

So, have i been sold illegal dvds? Even if they're not they're faulty. I'd just like it confirmed before i send them an accusing email with no backup.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Jon

For Rental or Resale. Resale. Meaning someone can buy them and resell them.

The DVDs are faulty. Return them as such. They are not illegal.

Oh and "Friends"? Get some better taste... :D

Oh ok, thanks. I will be sending them back anyway, afterall, i'm missing 50% of the dvds.

Are they double sided, if they are try reading both sides.

Some Animation things are on double sided disks.

Ok, thanks. Will try :)

EDIT* Just have tried it upside down, and it shows the episodes i was looking for. :dunce::banghead: wish i'd done that in the begining.

I´m not sure. It looks like they´re not dual-layered DVDs, which might explain why they´re incomplete. There where it reads T5/Z1, is there T5/Z2 or T5/Z0 written somewhere? If there is, then it´s dual-layered.

I was thinking they could be double-sided too.

Often one side has a non-widescreen aspect ratio and the other has a widescreen one. The side you've snapped DOES say 4:3/1.33:1 on the inside. Flip it over and see if it says 16:7 on the other side.

This thread has a highly mis-leading title.

At first glance it could be taken for liable (or is it slander?).

In any case, the DVDs are not illegal and your problem has been solved.

For those two reasons I am going to close this thread.
(maybe even remove it from the forum)

Atleast the problem was cleared up. :D
