Double Trouble in little Motorland!

Start you engines for the 10th race of the Weekly Endurance Series.

The idea for this combo came to me a couple of weeks ago, and got filed in the dusty attic that I call my brain for future use.
While it was rattling around in the huge empty, cob-web ridden corners, it gathered up another combo that caught my fancy earlier on, and, had a little baby!
To that end, I had better tell you what I want you to do!
This is, as the title suggests, a double header. Both races at the Motorland circuit, race one in the forward direction, race two in the reverse.
The twist here is that you will be using TWO different cars, each with their own handling characteristics that make them stand out from the crowd.
The first car, is the sublime Lotus Elise Type 72 ’01 and this will be used in the forward direction (Race 1)
The second car, is the fantastic Mazda MX-5/Miata (N/A) ’89, and this is to be used in the reverse direction (Race 2).
This will be a DOUBLE points event! And will be reflected in the release of the 10 week leaderboard after this race has been completed. The leaderboard is under construction at the moment ( That’s if I can work out how to create a self-sorting table in Excel )
Points will be as follows: full points 10 – 1 for the total race time, ½ points for each individual race & points for the fastest laps in both races too!

Oh Yeah! Please pay particular attention to the tyre settings for each race, they do differ!

You must use the settings laid out above at all times.
You must try to keep 2 wheels on the track at all times.

If it was easy! Everyone would be doing it!

It's only two 15 lap races, and lap times should be well under a minute a lap, so this is a nice quick set of races that can be fitted in anytime you have a spare few minutes.

Hopefully it should attract a few more entries because of that fact. Plus, I don't envisage any pitstops being needed. Well maybe one a race, but that's all.

Have fun guys!
Neil

ps...
Anyone heard from Drew lately?

''The second car, is the fantastic Mazda MX-5/Miata (N/A) ’89'' .... .. when Dels finished his 15 laps he's going to shoot it :)

Yeah, I just saw him today :)

Looks like fun Neil, I doubt any of us has much experience at this venue so we'll all start out even. Haven't been in my seat for almost a week so I need to do some license runs to get back in the groove.

Ahhhh!
The typical "Ooops, it doesn't drive well on sand and gravel" Ausie pride, rear's it's ugly head!
It does however drive VERY well on tarmac. Especially smooth, undulating, camber-changing tarmac!

OMG!!!!! it's not a yute! ;)

Neil

I can help you with that table, Neil. If you're having trouble with the self-sorting in excel, shoot me a PM and I'll be more than happy to do a walk-through. Nice combo, btw. 👍

Del decided to crawl out of the gravel pit and his 1st thoughts of the MX5 are now long gone {so ive put the gun away}.. it is a great car , loves to drift {not that drifting gets you from A to B quickly}

Sending my times soon .. no pit stops btw .

Glad you changed your mind there Marty!

It is a fantastic drive, in the game and in RL (apparently)

Enjoy the fishing!

Neil

I was having great fun with the Elise but then got in the MX5, what a fun little ride. No pits either. Have any of you seen the poor Jaguar in the forward race? I almost felt sorry for an AI, I don't think he takes a single corner without falling off. Also on a few runs in forward I saw AI's pitting on laps 2,3,and 4, the only thing I can think is that they were pushed into the pit by another AI.

You may have stated this Neil but what can we talk about as far as times, like lap times for laps 1, 5 and 10 or something like that?

I'm running 30 seconds slower in reverse mode, is that about what you guys are finding?

You can discuss lap times (just not your fastest lap time per race), splits (including your fastest lap splits, just don't include the finish-line split).
Just not your actual submitted race time, or your actual submitted fastest lap time.
You can go down to whatever accuracy you wish, ie 1'26.4xx or 1'26.43x or give the exact figures.

OK?
And I've been too busy this week decorating, and preparing for the up-coming event to race this properly yet (just testing :indiff:)
But, I can say just the testing was fun!

Neil

Great combo Neil, did one run for each car tonight, loving the feel - the light weight really helps keep corner speed up, and helps you string the turns together. Going to run it again tomorrow to see if I can make any improvements. Good luck everyone who takes part in this! 👍

Joe

OK guys!
Glad you all enjoyed the races, and also that the numbers are slightly better.
I'm not gonna be able to get the results up till tomorrow afternoon, had a totally hectic weekend decorating and moving stuff round in the house. And absolutely no way to put it off either.

Totally knackered, and off to bed early for a change. :guilty:

New combo will go up then also.

Neil

Sorry guys,I was not able to steal some time to these races. :guilty:
Maybe next time.Del's suggestion with the M3 in Tokyo looks great. 👍
A race with WRC's would be great in the future...

This is probably the best combo I've ever raced! Great job, Neil!! Each race, by itself, is a blast - over and over, again. Very addictive. And, for a change, it was the other cars that were having so much trouble. That was fun to watch too. I was travelling quite a bit this past week (I have a new job), so I ran out of time, but just wanted to express my excitement. 👍

ERacer

Sorry guys!
But had a "let's just go to the hospital to check it out" evening, and have only just got to the keyboard now.
Head's mashed, but baby's still not here. (wish she'd just make her bloody mind up! Just like her mother! )

I'll get the results and the next thread up ASAP in the morning! Sorry guys (inc Vex'd) but RL has priority where a new baby's life is concerned.

Tokyo-a-go-go! As soon as I can possibly get it together, promise!

Neil

Take your time Neil .. baby and wife come 1st .. everything else can wait .

I'm heading for Tokyo in the meantime .

The results are now posted in post #2

Congrat's to Drew for a near clean sweep, Aremburgkerve for a solid 3rd, and Delfino for a great race 2!
 Great close racing from all involved also!
Neil

Thanks Neil, I ran each race at least 10 times knocking a few seconds off each time. One of the most fun races I've done in 3 years here. The slower cars like the ones we used require fast exit speeds out of the corners. The AI's were no trouble, they had their own problems staying on the course. I don't know how many times I'd see an AI pit after 2 or 3 laps, most probably being pushed in by another AI.
Great racing from all drivers!!!

I ran each race completely, once only.

I had a couple of aborted MX-5 races, where I pushed a 'little' too hard in the long downhill left-hand sweeper leading to the S/F. (read, forgot to ease off at the modified apex that allows you to straight-line the last little kink onto the 'straight' )
The rears drifting slightly, and the fronts washing out causing an unavoidable 4-wheel drifting head-on with the pit-wall! :dunce:

Immense fun!
Neil

p.s.
Have you noticed the Del's least favourite car of the two, yealded his fastest times and he only ended up 0.003 seconds behind you in race two!
Funny huh?

Del ran the Lotus twice , the Mazda 4 times and as every lap went by i enjoyed driving it more .
There was a huge difference in the 1st attempt compared to the last .. attributed actually driving the car as opposed to letting it drift tooo much/tooo much throttle .

Congrats to those on the podium .. some close racing all round .

No problem,Neil,we can wait for you for a lifetime.
Hope everything is all right with the baby and the lady, too.👍

Take your time Neil .. baby and wife come 1st .. everything else can wait .

I'm heading for Tokyo in the meantime .

Anne's OK apart from her hips & pelvis being soft and really sore, but the baby's fully engaged and kicking so hard it's setting off Braxton-hick's contractions that the midwives say means she's getting impatient and wants out soon.
3 weeks to go, by the books, but they think she'll come early! Could be any day, or in the full 3 weeks, no-one can tell or say.

:nervous::scared::):scared::nervous::) :scared::scared::scared:

Well Neil you're already learning who's going to control your universe for quite a long time, and you'll love every...well most every moment. My daughters are gone from the house but they can still play me like a cheap fiddle. It's hard to say no to your babies, especially girls.

Sure glad you only ran each race once, my first time on reverse was 12'07.907 with a 47.092 hotlap, don't have my first forward time but it was a good 12 seconds slower then my best.

Hey Marty , that's definately the closest win I've ever gotten...unbelievable, barely a hair's width difference. Great racing from everyone with an addictive combo, great work Neil, now go see what the wife wants......NOW!
