So... a week ago I got a third job (Landscaping) which is technically an internship to learn about this field. I am currently doing all the hard labor work but if I do stick with it hopefully it will pay off for me. I feel it's a bit like boot camp which I needed because my life has drastically done a 180 in a good way.

Before starting I was staying up all hours of the day and night getting maybe about 4-5 hrs. of sleep. I was pretty much glued to the internet during that time. There were a lot of daily habits i.e. brushing teeth, showering, etc. that were lacking. I was probably stressed, depressed and negative.

Now I'm working pretty much every day from 8 - 4 and I go to sleep around 10 or 11p.m. Since I've been doing a lot of manual work I've been getting a lot more muscles which I'm happy about because I needed more upper body strength for hockey and biking. I don't feel stressed, depressed or negative because I don't have time to be. One odd thing is I laugh at a lot of stuff more, I guess that whole laughing is good for you deal?

I never felt like I was addicted to the internet but probably more along the lines of GTP or just being connected? Now I'm only on for a fraction of what I used to be.

I guess that's about it because I can't really think of anything else, I just thought it be nice to post something good for people to read since there's been a lot of sad stuff posted by others ( I hope you guys don't take that the wrong way, I didn't know how else to word it :dunce: :scared: ).

Finally, I'm glad to see that you're getting some sleep! You could've gone insane! I'm stuck in a rut here right now sortof. I can't go to bed any earlier than 1 recently!

I got a landscaping job for the summer too! Not that I was in as rough shape as you before this (I had another job which got me up around 7:30 every morning) but it's amazing how falling into a healthy routine of waking up at 5:30, working until 3:30 or 4:00, coming home and having a bit of free time before my self-prescribed 10:00 bedtime can get your life on track. I find my digestion is better, my mind is sharper, I feel good about my health and can eat food without worrying that it will make me fat. Of course, we've had 8 days of 30-40 degree Celsius weather here in Toronto, with not a drop of rain until yesterday afternoon, so it kind of sucks to be drenched in sweat after your first job in the morning. 30 degrees at 8:00am is ungodly.

Good to hear. It's nice to know when things are going well, espically when there's been quite a few threads that have been a bit downcast - nowt wrong with that, we're all here to help in any way we can - but we rarely hear about things that are all good. Good luck with the new job, and keep up the good work! 👍

I did landscaping...well sort of I worked for the City of Auburn Hills (where the Pistons play b-ball) a few years ago. It was a hard job but at 12 bucks an hour I wasn't going to complain.

I too have a landscaping job at the nearby airbase. Sitting on a mower from 6:30 AM to 7:00 + PM making $12 is nothing to shake a stick at. Plus with all of the overtime. 👍

I am be calling the guy who does all the city lawn mowing for a job. $12 an hour isn't too bad, as long as I have my MP3 Player. Anyways, it is good for you what you explain.

Oh and a good mowing and trimming is only $15 a week. Not professional, but I have been mowing for over 10 years and doing it by myself for like 5 years. :) Unless it is a big yard. Then I just decide.

Thanks guys. :)

 Getting up at 5:30? hellz no! Then again I have a short commute. :sly: Anyway, yeah I am really dreading the heat especially when it really gets to be summer. This last week I've been spared because it only got into the 70's except for one day that I got sunburned. :grumpy: It even rained yesterday and today. :odd: I think I've handled things pretty well so far. It's gotten easier for the second week and I was amazed today because it was payday, got most of it in cash, and more coming later because of the deductions. Yay! no more money problems! :dopey:

I really like the job much better than what I was studing in school (Industrial Design) even though it's a lot of hard physical work. I've been keeping a mental note of the bad and good of both careers. So far, Landscaping is a lot better no contest. I suppose $400 on the first pay day will do that too. :dopey:

The only thing I really struggle with is this guy's habits for how he does his work efficently because I'm used to certain habits or ways of working than he is so sometimes he has to literally show me what to do so my feeble mind can understand. He's not really that different from my dad really. :dopey:

Well... Sadly after almost 3 Months my "internship" will be ending and I will be going to school. I'm bitter sweet about this because on one hand I really started to hate my boss because of his work habits, Common sense my ass. :irked: On the other hand I really did like landscaping , all of it even the damn heat as I was looking forward to the winter aspects.

When I first started my boss didn't tell me it was clearly an internship and as I found out recently his intensions did change. I came around at the right time when he needed someone and so his idea was to teach me and then hire someone else so the first person would teach the second. Well apparently, I "suck" too much for him to keep me. I feel like duh... I don't have any experience in this what do you ****ing expect?! Even if I wanted to stay there's no way in hell I could deal with my boss's personality so I'm glad I get to leave in that respect.

All in all I feel like I had a 3 month membership to a gym and was paid to go to it everyday. I don't think I've ever been in such good shape since XC. I will definitely miss everything about it except for my boss.

Sadly I'm looking forward to "reverting" back to my former self like above. Sitting at a desk in front of a computer doing absolutely nothing at all hrs. and in an a/c room sounds pretty good.

I've been struggling with the downhill aspect of MTB but after my boss making things clear I guess I was able to snap out of stuff because I ****ing man handled my bike and the downhill yesterday! It was ****ing awsome! :D My friend didn't have a prayer and he knew it.

Ouch. Still, you've found something you like. Looking around for another landscaping job?

When I was in college I used to stay up all night playing video games and sleep in through the morning. I'd shower, but shaving and brushing teeth and stuff like that were optional. I used to wake up in my jeans from the previous night and go down to the nearest fast food joint to pick up breakfast fast enough to get back to the apartment and start playing games with my buddies again.

It was a constant LAN party.

I miss it. :(

But of course I have other things that are better about my life now.

Yes... I'd like to experience other landscaping jobs to see what they are like versus this internship. I can't imagine it being "as bad" :scared:

From your posts it sounds as you're doing something that feels meanful to you despite the downsides you mentioned. And that can bring drastic changes in your mood. Way to go, I'm glad for you. 👍

Don't give up on this positive excperience, start looking right now for other ways to continue with this after this "internship",as you call it, will end.

I might sound like a commie, but to be honest, there is some pleasure in doing a hard days work.

No, totally... being in the Industrial Design program for school I realized all the "crap" we produce and with landscaping I am doing something that's definitely meaningful to me but also the customers land or whatever the job is. I've always liked hard physical work it reminds me of my work ethics I had in XC. I did feel my mood change, I never had time to "sit on my ass and feel sorry for myself" kind of thing and I felt like I had a hell of a lot more energy like back in HS when I'd go from 8-3 then XC for another 4-5 hrs. and then home to do homework. I still don't know how I got thru that stuff. :scared:

No, not at all there is pleasure in it as I found it very peaceful and refective if that sounds odd.
