What aid settings do you use?

Hi all :)
I'm pretty new to the GT world but I have driven some GT5 and are now having fun with GT6.
I am wondering what kind og driver settings most people use? currently I have turned everything off except ABS (@1) and I have the driving line turned on as well.
I'm starting to find the high powered cars to be quite a challenge to control now that I'm in International B races, and I am considering to enable some of the assists to help me a bit. But I am worried that those assists will give me some bad habits and it will be really hard for me to turn them off again later.

So what setting do you use, and why?
 
Yeah, stick with keeping your settings off. You just have to learn self control when running high-powered cars around technical tracks. Do a bunch of hot laps with a particular car that you're planning on using just to get a feel for it before you throw yourself into a race with it.
 
knowledge of track , conditions, and the limitations of the car you're using, is the only AID you will ever need in this game. That, and your gas and break pedal. all aids always off. got to end game credits. Aid yourself, don't rely on anything else to AID you.

Try some mild tuning, in case the car spins out when you feel it shouldn't (raise heights, reduce LSD sensitivity, increase initial torque, to keep the car stable, don't hi rev in corners, up or down shifting, it all depends on what you think is safe or not, trust yourself, and practice.)
 
ABS 1 is considered normal by most people and is the only aid allowed in serious on-line racing. Abs off was pretty tricky in GT5 but seems a little easier in GT6. TC will slow you down so only use it if you're having serious problems controlling the car. Learning throttle control is a much better option. If you're serious about improving your skills, and I guess you are otherwise you wouldn't be asking for advice, stay away from srf as that really will teach you bad habits. The driving line is useful when you're starting out with a new car on a new track to get your braking points, but try to spot track-side markers so you're not relying on it and turn it off when you're ready.
If you find that there are certain events that you just can't win without aids don't beat yourself up about it though. There were a few races in GT5 which were nigh-on impossible without srf.
 
Don't let the 'elitists' put you off using driving aids. You paid for your copy of the game so use it however you see fit that enables you to enjoy the game best. For example, i've just done the 5 lap supercar event at Brands Hatch in a stock LFA Nurburgring edition with just ABS on 1 and it was brilliant, totaly planted and beat the FXX on the last lap, Then i did the one make Aventador race and that car, even with racing suspension, racing hards, racing brakes and torque centering diff' was a nightmare and that had TC1, SRF on and ABS3. Without them i could barely do 1 lap and i find it frustrating to keep on going over old ground just to finish one event. If you feel the driver aids will help you then use them regardless of what others think.

I'm pretty sure that throttle control is one of the main reasons I'm having problems controlling the high powered cars. Combined with the fact that I dont know anything about tuning the cars, anywhere I can learn about that?
And yes I am pretty serious about getting better, and i just got home after picking up a GT Driving Force wheel set and a playseat. My old wheel set (Speedlink Carbon GT) has some really odd pedals. It feels like the gas pedal has 3-4 stages of throttle, so it dosnt help to make fluent movements. After a little test driving with the new GTDF set, that feels a lot better, and the input lag I have with the old wheel is also gone now. So now I have to learn to play GT all over again :)
I also took off the driving line aid, and I can certainly feel that I have to learn all the tracks again now, so that I know when to start breaking.

But as some of you guys say as well, I wont let it ruin the experience for me if i cant handle it without the aids in some races. But i feel confident that with practice and some learning about tuning I can get far.
So where to go for tuning info? Should I just try stuff?

Can't help to be disappointed about polyphony not improving the abs option, its still quicker (and easier) to run with abs on 1, running without it doesn't inspire any confidence or feel, finding the right braking pressure to induce lock ups are unpredictable.

Gave up trying with gt5 but am going to persevere with 6.

Running without all other aids is a vast improvement though :-)
 
Depends on the car for me. I use ABS1 on all cars and TC anything from 0-5. I don't see the issue why one would rive a car without TC when that car does use TC in rl.
But depends just on the stability of the car for me. SLS GT3 i drive without TC, but the Z4 GT3 (one of my fav cars) i use TC on 3 or it is murderous out of corners.
 
Use whatever aids you need to make the game work for you.👍
I have ended up driving with all aids off and manual shift in order to increase the challenge of GT5. And I've carried those over into GT6.
But it took a while - for over a year I was happy with ABS1 and TC2-4 (except for rallying - I was getting nowhere until I read that its best to remove TC!!:dunce:)
And I used to stick racing softs on EVERYTHING and loved it!!!
But in the end my curiosity won out. I would wonder if I could match my times with aids on by reducing and finally removing an aid. And then after removing all aids, it was the tires and upgrades. Now I prefer cars completely stock - they have a different sound and feel.
But its horses for courses.
Challenge and enjoyment have be in equal quantities for me:)
 
With a tricky car I put on some TC and ABS how much depends on power/grip available. On a new track I use the driving line especially if racing online to avoid crashing. Otherwise all off with stock tires to learn all about a nice car.
 
For some reason, I decided to start the game with TCS on 5 (can't remember for the life of me what my reasoning was) but, after getting to IA and thinking things had been suspiciously easy, I have started trying with minimal/no aids (though I find if I don't change the settings before every race, it will revert to previous TCS of 5..dunno why), though I do use the racing line as I have a habit of losing my concentration (the red for braking helps even if I usually brake miles later than it). Generally, at present, I am running most races with ABS and TCS of 1, sometimes both off, sometimes more TCS if struggling.

It does really depend on the grip levels so, for example, with the new Red Bull Karts and Juniors, I can run all aids off and not spin (which will probably be most people's experience of them). For rally cars, I was struggling previously until I just turned everything off and it allows me to slide them more.

Ultimately, just use whatever works for you. Purists will say no aids ever; pretty crap players like me will say use whatever you can. It can also depend on your driving style: I am sometimes a late brake, drift driver, sometimes a precision driver so it is difficult finding a balance. It also depends on the controller: a wheel and pedals (like you have) certainly allows more control and can allow less aids but, for someone like me, I have no option but the DS3 and I struggle with throttle control sometimes

I'm trying to teach me to run with wheel (g27), and will not lose faith in myself, I started to use some aids. Mostly TC 1-5 and ABS 1. But when I ran the Goodwood Festival of Speed, I had all the aids on, and it made it MUCH easier. Especially with the powerful cars.
But has return to just use TS and ABS. Will the learn and run the "right" way.

But the main thing is having throttle control and smooth movement of the steering wheel.
The TC will help you to you learn to control the throttle, if you not use to much. And gradually turn it off,
when you get better.

Just because someone does something in a different way than you doesn't make them "elitest". For a lot of us, the sense of satisfaction you get from taming an unruly car (without the help of aids) is one of the greatest parts of the game. If I turned aids on just to get through a tough event I would feel as if I had cheated myself.

But that's just my opinion and I won't be calling anyone names if their opinion differs from mine.
 
The more aids you use the easier it is and if what you want is easier than by all means turn on whatever you need. Some people prefer the challenge of less or no aids at all and aren't as concerned about simply beating an event but in beating it "their way". While it's true you'll be a far better driver in the end if you use as few aids as possible, it's also true that you may not have the time to learn all you need to learn to drive without aids. Figure out what works for you and brings you the most enjoyment and go from there. As others have said though, the majority of online racing and leagues is ABS1 only and no other aids so if you intend to race online, you might want to consider that.

That should really come with a warning that Traction Control could actually slow you down, and therefore NOT make it easier to actually complete an event, or do well in it. :sick:
OMG, especially if you have it set at the :crazy: default setting of TC @ 5 :boggled:

When I was doing the Goodwood events, I didn't realize that when I moved onto the next car event (the 2nd one with the X whatever car), the settings wouldn't save from the previous one, and there I was wondering why I couldn't make better than bronze. I then looked at my settings & found that TC was back to 5.
I think in the end I wound up using TC @ 1 to get gold. :guilty: Because I was a bit frustrated by then, and eager to win the cars (which was the reason I was doing the events. lol)
I don't think I (personally) could've ever gotten gold with TC @ 5 for that event.

You can really see the difference in situations like that because as soon as I turned down the TC, I was motoring briskly out of the first turn ahead of my ghost, which was behaving like it was stuck in the mud.

Anyway, so I've used aids here & there for various reasons.

But more is not always better or easier!

Especially with TC. While TC set to 4 might make it SEEM easier to drive, you might find it easier to gold an event with it set at 2.
 
All to his/hers, but I want to keep it as real as possible and don't use any aids if turning them off is an option. Don't use the map either and in some races I turn race display off as well as I use cockpit view. I have a strong feeling that most players complaining about this game being too easy in every competition stick to their default helpers like driving line, suggested gear, TCS and skid recovery.
 
Abs on 1 and nothing else, i have not used the driving line once so far on gt6(witch im quite proud of) and am finding it ok to learn the tracks without it.
Also find that gradually squeezing the throttle is the best way with the R2 trigger.

If I can just find a cheap stand for my DFGT, the table tray I use just fails miserably. I think back to the days when I had a PS2 and GT3 and having all assists on. Geez lol

Some of us have learned much since the first GT game. In GT2 you had to buy the TC, if you wanted to use it.

But switching from DS3 to a steering wheel is not easy. I did not use aids until now, on GT6, When I started with steering wheel (G27). And it has a big help in the learning process. Have now just ABS1 and tc 2-3, when I driving the powerful cars.
 
All off, sometimes I'll use ABS 1. BUT, that is now that I have a wheel. When I was using the Dualshock controller it was very difficult for me to adjust the throttle -- I remember shaking my fists at the sky, especially when you get to the more powerful cars (the Minolta did me in). For some reason I had never mapped my throttle to the joystick and was using the "x" button. But having a wheel (DFGT) makes it much easier to feather the brakes and throttle, which makes all the difference in the world.

Remembering "slow in, fast out" in respect to turns will make it much easier to keep the car on the course, and your times will improve immensely. It still amazes me that when I get to a time threshold I just can't seem to cross, if I SLOW DOWN and make my apexes cleanly, I score great times, and with much less stress, too.

Johnnypenso summed it up well, though. Do what works for you.
