I am faced with a dilema, and I am not sure who really knows much about motorbikes but no harm in asking!:D

Im looking at spending around 1.5k on a motorbike, 125cc mainly for commuting but really just for general riding. I have 2 main options at the moment and I would rather steer clear of chinese copys (so no Hongdus).

My 2 main options currently are:

Honda CG 2000-2004 model:
Honda-CG-125.jpg

Engine Type - Air-cooled 4-stroke
Displacement - 124.1cc
Max. Power Output - 8.1kW/9,000rpm
Fuel Tank Capacity - 13.5 litres (including 2.3-litre reserve)
Starter - Electric
Transmission Type - 5-speed constant mesh
Dimensions - (LxWxH) 1,982 x 736 x 1,067mm
Wheelbase - 1,297mm
Dry Weight - 114kg
Top speed around 75mph

Yamaha YBR:

Displacement: 124.00 cc
Engine type: Single cylinder
Stroke: 4
Power: 10.19 HP
Starter: Electric
Gearbox: 5-speed
Fuel capacity: 12.00 litres
Top speed around 70mph

so, anyone know of any other options or does anyone have any more knowledge on either bike?

By just looking at the specs...the honda looks the way to go. But having had 2 Honda's and 2 yamaha's over the years I have to say that the Yamaha is a better bike. I wish I could help you out more but i haven't any experience with either of those bikes.

BUUUUUT... if you want the coolest 125 ever you should check this out.

who says only big bikes are cool?

Heh, I would rather like a hot looking bike like that:p

CBR125 worth a mention

I am on a limited budget however, though if I saw a CBR in my price range there would be no stopping me:D

In b4 needless comments about how bikes are dangerous.

Anyway, I was going to mention the Aprilia RS125 just because of its sheer awesomeness, but 2-strokes aren't streetlegal anymore, are they? I've never been able to find a clear answer.

In terms of the choices in the first post, I agree with UnoMOTO that the Honda sounds like the better bike, but I think you'll be fine with either one. I would recommend test-riding both of them and seeing which one "feels" better to you -- the controls, the seat, etc. No point in buying the "better bike" if the ergonomics don't sit right with you.

2-Strokes are street legal I believe, but all new bikes and outboard boat engines (:indiff: this makes the motors heavier, bigger, and less fuel efficient. Waaay more expensive too.) have to be 4-strokes. :)

I was gonna suggest a CBR125R but then I just realized that an R125 exists!

Im pretty much sold on the CBR, seen one in person today, soooo nice. Seen a few in my price range so if I get my loan application accepted I will be looking for a CBR, if I fail in finding one I will look for the Yamaha YBR, the Honda may be the better bike but I have read better rviews on the Yamaha than the Honda.

Honda have a very tempting offer on their 125's at the moment, you might want to give it a look. I know a brand new CBR is out of your price range if you're paying up front, but this seems like a pretty good deal to me. If I wasn't 6'4" I'd be talking Dad into it. :sly:

That being said, both the current RS125 and the new R125 look a lot nicer, in my opinion. The Aprilia especially looks more like a bigger CBR than the CBR does.

Also, by 'full sized' chassis, do Yamaha mean the R125 will have the same dimensions as the R1 and R6? It might be a 125 I actually fit on that isn't a dirt bike. :D

Well, after much deliberation and looking at how much iI have to spend, that 1.5k dropped massively. I have now just purchased, and will pick up tomorrow a Honda NE50 Vision! Woo!

Here is a pic of my new ride from the listing:

Yeah, I cant really afford the others atm, perhaps by the time summer 08 comes round il have something from my original plans:D

It might not be what you originally planned on Ash, but it beat's taking the peasant wagon hands down.

CBR125R!!! FTW!

Take a good look around. My best mate just bought a '54 reg for £1250.

Immaculate condition as you can see, I was seriously impressed by what I saw.

It rides great and it's got the looks to got with it too.

Well worth the money, this one is mint and only had 800 miles on the clock.

Like I said, have a good look around, it took him a month to find this one.
