i have to choose between a eclipse gsx(turbocharged and awd) or a 2001 acura integra type R. im going to use them for a couple little races here and there, i say the gsx is better for that but my dad says the type r. what about you guys? thanks for all your help

What kind of races? Where? What year Eclipse?

Frankly I don't see the two cars as fitting into the same category at all, in any type of organized racing except autocross.

It all depends on what year of GSX you want. If you are going for a 1G DSM, It will make a badass drag car as well as rally car. If you want a 2G DSM It will make a badass autocross car. I think with the Integra your only limited to handling. If you want to go fast, get a 1G GSX.
And also another point... Do you want to be spinning your tires all the way to 3rd gear? Or be able to drop the clutch at 6,000 rpm's and have a tiny chirp of the tires... "Traction in Action"

well im looking at a 2gen eclipse, hopefully 99', as far as races go a couple drag races (stoplight and drag strip) i heard you can do high 11's in a gsx with a turbonetics turbo. The integra type R im looking for the same thing. i heard that 1gen gsx are way faster true? my friend's brother has one and from what i seen that car can beat tons of cars. lights and awd, jyst what you need. i am looking at fast acceleration and thats why i chose the gsx as one of the picks. thanks for all your help.

 Toyota Supra
 Ferrari Enzo

Whatever you buy, keep the racing to the track.

I can't imagine buying an ITR for drag racing. If you are only interested in straight line stuff buy the Eclipse.

Edit: A newer Camaro would probably work for you too.

Yeah, if you want to drag race, dont screw up an Intergra type R. Im not a major fan of Hondas, but those things are really meant for curves, and they do it so well *sigh*.

Take the ITR. And take it to the curves. Mountain road, AutoX, track, whatever. Believe me, as fun as drag racing can be, feeling the g-force and piloting your car around turn after turn is so much more satisfying.

I would go with the eclipse with a type R badge.

This is the correct answer.

A 2G DSM is really a hard car to drag race. It takes almost twice as much to go as fast as a 1G. Plus your weak 7-bolt engine and 3-bolt rear end will need replacing just about after every run. My brother's 92 GSX was running 11's with a 20G turbo, and a 2G next to him with the same mods was running high 12's. If you were to by a 2G, the tiny heat box T-25 would need replacing just about when it reaches your driveway up to atleast a 16G. The T-25's in the 2G's will only hold about 16 pounds of boost, and not too mention the 2G BOV's start venting at about 15 pounds. Get a turbo back exaust, boost control, injectors, fuel pump, AFC, 1G BOV, and a 16G and you will hit low 13's easy with a very streetable car. But if you did that with a 1G you would be running mid to high 12's.

I would probably get something used like a mercedes i have seen them go for $20,000

A 99 eclipse is not a 2nd gen eclipse is it... would the 1st gen be the 90-91, the second gen be the 92-94 and eberything past 94 would be 3rd until the facelift and the death of the gsx?

I'm guessing your not real old. But just to let you know the insurence on a Eclipse will indeed kill you. Regradless if you are a perfect driver. Anything with a turbo will generally rape you on insurence just to let you know.

And if you happen to be one of those spoiled kids that happen to have their parents pay for everything then get the Eclipse, get busted for speeding and have your
insurence go even more sky high.

I'd go with a regular, non type R, Integera or even a Civic. There cheap, reliable and if you want to mod it there must be a million things under the sun you can get.

Some people on this forum make me laugh. Thats all. And while I'm not doubting you can get them under 20g's...who pays 20 g's for a used car more then likely from the 80's when you could just get a pretty resonable new or newer car for less.

For $20,000 you could get a late 90s Mercedes, assuming that you just want anything with the Mercedes badge on it. Although the car isn't from the 80's, I don't know why anybody who isn't in their eighties would want one :)

1G's are 90-94, 2G's are 95-99, and the 3G's are 2000 and up. But the 3G's dont get put in the class of Diamond Star Motors because they dont cary on the 4G63 and arent even made by DSM. The only DSM's are 90-99. If you want to get technical, Diamond Star Motors stoped production in 1995, so all Talons and Eclipses after 95 didnt cary the DSM badge inside the doors and engine bays, but still carried on the DSM name.

Straight line drag racing, V8's are the way

Dodge 440 with Torqueflite 929 transmission
350 Chev with a Tremec T5

the V8 options are endless but are very expensive, AWD's are quite are hard to launch but then again FWD's can bog down as well.
