Regarding the Web Design Forum: (move thread if necessary)

What constitutes spam? If I have a personal website (not a business, not selling anything), is it okay to have a thread based upon it? I'm sure members would like to get feedback on designing their websites, but where do I/we/they draw the line?

I understand that a thread based on a business, another forum, something in bad taste, or any other illegal activity would constitute spam, is thus against the terms of the Terms of Service/AUP.

In short, what linking is acceptable, and what isn't?

Asking for a critique of your website is completely acceptable in the Web Design forum, and I don't consider that to be self-promotion if you are honestly looking for ways to improve your site.

Then how come that thread in web design was closed? I know it was a business, but I honestly think that person was honestly looking for ways to improve their site.

I closed it because I can't be selective, I have to draw a line somewhere. Which applies to everyone: from the loud, rude and incoherent advertisers to the calm, friendly and sincere.
